I'm looking at the Chicco Keyfit vs. Graco Snugride. DH's backseat is very small, he drives an old Honda and having 2 carseats back there is going to be tight. He will be picking both kids up from daycare every day.
We had to put DS' Evenflo 3in1 in the middle so he could put his legs inbetween the front seats. We can fit him on the passenger side when he's in the Evenflo Triumph that was in my car. So I guess we'll keep the Triumph in that car until he outgrows it. Not sure what we'll do after that, it won't be long. Maybe a Nautilus would fit better?
Regardless, I'm trying to figure out which infant seat would take up the least room. Any idea? I'm sure we'll go to BRU to test them out one day, but I'd like to at least have something in mind before we go.
Note: neither of my kids will be in a Britax
Re: Need carseat help
We have the traditional Graco Snugride, not the 32/35 or whatever number it is because really, who keeps their kid in it up to that weight anyway? You know they will outgrow it in height before they ever get that heavy.
My car actually has a very small backseat too, which is really unfortunate since we bought it with kids in mind and were obviously oblivious to the leg room. The snugride fit really well, just had to move my seat up as much as I could.
I always pined over the Chicco Keyfit, but they do look bigger so I always justified that it wouldn't have been a good fit anyway.
This is obviously a useless post since I can't for sure say that it would not have fit because we never tried, but the Graco fit pretty well
Do you have an infant seat from before you could use or do you just want a new one? We have the Chicco Keyfit and they are big, we put it in our mini van with that seat in the farthest rear position and the car seat still touches the drivers seat when put back enough for DH to drive it, not when I drive it though. That being said we had it in our tiny Ford Escort on the passenger side and I could sit ok in the passenger front seat but DH couldn't. I really like the seat, but the sunshade isn't great, just an FYI on that.
We had the Chicco when I had my Mazda3 and it was TIGHT. The passenger seat was pushed up far and the seat back was straight up and down. We always said that if I got in an accident and someone was up front with me that their knees would be broken in an instant. Hence why I traded in and got a Honda Accord
I don't know about the Snugride but they do seem to be a little smaller.
We have the Triumph in my car and it's great, DH has an Evenflo Maestro, which is a combination seat that goes from a 5 point to a booster, just like the Nautilus but about $30 cheaper. We LOVE that seat and it's definitely a better fit in his car. Plus, we just love Evenflo seats, lol.
These are the 2 seats we have for DS now, the Evenflo Triumph in my car and the Maestro in his (I couldn't remember the name). But the Maestro has to be in the middle. I love both seats too! But since we can't fit the Maestro on the side, I'm not sure what we'll do when he outgrows the Triumph. For now we'll just switch them, but he is pushing the height limit on the Triumph.
We had the Graco SafeSeat when DS was a baby, but A) I gave that seat to my cousin, and
DH had a different car then. I'm assuming the Snugride 35 is what replaced the SafeSeat?
We have this Graco Snugride 35 and I hate it! Keeping in mind that Ryan has been 80-95% height and weight since birth and John was such a peanut this carseat is heavy and bulky (I know they all are to some extent) even without him in it. I just adjusted the straps to the top shoulder setting and there is so little extra material for the straps that it made them WAY too tight against his shoulders. Even at the loosest setting I could barely get one finger between him and the straps. He was miserable on the ride to school this morning! The seat is wider than I remember the Evenflo that we used with John so he has had enough room up until now when I had to move the straps. DH has to keep the handle up when he drives (Jeep Cherokee)or else the driver seat is pushed right against the seat and actually pushes the carseat base up. I remember it looking bigger and heavier than the Chicco that we were looking at but I had a coupon and this one was on sale the day we looked but now I wonder if I would have been happier with the Chicco.
For John we have always liked the Safety First Alpha Omega Elite and will be buying another one for Ryan this weekend. It seems more narrow than some of the other seats and is easy to install. It gets high safety ratings but is a lot less expensive than others.
