Breast question

I have been exclusive pumping for 1 month.  Yay!  I get this feeling either when I pump or when I should be pumping that feels like someone is twisting my nipples with a vice grip.  It is very painful(7 /10), but only lasts a few seconds.  Is this normal?   Is this the milk going into my breasts?  Sorry if this is a silly question, I am a first  time breast feeder.

Re: Breast question

  • I had pain like that for the first couple weeks of bf-ing, but it's gone now. So no idea if it's normal or not for pumping, but hopefully it eventually fades away for you!

  • I get sharp stabbing pains through my breasts, and I've heard that the theory on that is milk refilling. It doesn't happen all the time.

I don't have much pain in my nipples though. Maybe you should try different sizes. I had to switch last time to the 27 mm size, and stopped using the 24 mm that came with my pump. I've also heard people say that using lanolin prior to pumping helps.

  • Thanks Ladies! I thought it was let down, just wasn't sure.  Smile

  • That's what my let down feels like...and is the worst part of BFing for me thus far.  No cracked nips or poorly latched babies...just stabby boobs.
