Trouble TTC

thick uterine lining

I've been TTC for 11 months.  All my blood work and my husband's semen-analysis were perfect.  I had a sonogram that showed that I ovulated, but had a 16mm uterine lining.  I was told that it should be less than 10mm.  I went in for a HSG and they found a growth in my uterus, but my tubes are open.  They wanted me to come in for a SIS (saline infusion sonogram) but I canceled and just talked to the doctor.  She wants to do the SIS to get more details and then do surgery to remove the growth.  She said that is probably what is causing my thickened uterine lining.

My questions are: have any of you gotten pregnant with a thickened lining?  Should I get the surgery done?

My emotions are not helping me think straight.  I thought surgery would cause scarring, but I read some people got pregnant right away after they had the fibroids removed.

  • The problems with having a fibroid inside your uterus are that (1) it can actually prevent implantation in the first place, (2) it can grow large enough to distort the shape of your uterus, and (3) if you do get pregnant, it can cause complications for the baby because it is basically competing for a very small space (and fibroids grow in response to hormones, meaning it will likely get bigger while you are pregnant).  I know the idea of any kind of surgery is scary, but you really need to get it taken care of before the fibroid grows so big that it becomes an even bigger problem.  Good luck!

  • SIS is the same as an SHG.  It is an easy procedure.  If you are curious - my response to this post - They put a cath in, then vag cam, then inject saline.  The weirdest part was the feeling of the saline running back down my rear!  They had put one of those lovely blue pads on the floor -Thank goodness!  They put quite a bit of saline in me since my ute would not "puff up" and my tubes were clear.  So that day I needed a few pads for the leakage.  Otherwise it was so easy!

This allows them to get a good picture of what is going on inside your ute.

Personally I would want to have them removed before I got ku since anything inside the ute can interfere with pg.

okay if they see a growth it might be a fibroid it needs to come out or it interfears with implantations. As far as getting pregnant with a thick uterus yes mine was at a wopping 20mma nd the doc told me she was worried coz it was real thick but it was within phase 3 layers etc. i got pregnant that cycle. next i had was an 18mm and i got pregnant to. so it is possible. mine i was told is coz of so much estrogen that causes it to thicken that quick.
  • First of all, I hate that I spelled uterine wrong.  Anyway, I moved at the end of June to a new city and had decided to get settled into our new place before pursuing a new doctor and getting surgery.  I was shocked that I got pregnant and am due in April!  I'm hoping the fibroid or polyp will not be a problem.  My first appointment is Sept 19th.  Thank you all for the input.
