So I told the nurse today that I have had some mild intermittent menstrual like cramping. I am only 5 1/2 weeks along. They wanted to do an ultrasound. The nurse told me the technician wasn't supposed to tell me anything so I might have to wait a few days until I hear from the doctor. The technician did tell me that she saw a yolk sac. They also had be go do some blood work, but also never told me why yet, as their office was then closed. Does anyone know what all this testing is related to? I am worried something is wrong, but hoping that everything turns out ok!
Thanks!
Re: Testing question
The blood work is to test your HCG levels -- the "pregnancy hormone." In the early weeks of pregnancy the HCG should double every 48-72 hrs or so if the pregnancy is progressing normally. This is a routine test that all pregnant women visiting the OBGYN expect to have done.
Unless the doctor tells you to worry I don't think you should
