Leg Cramps?

Anyone else getting them, or am I just special?

My calves keep cramping up and it is very, very painful!

  • Charley Horse is the name of those horrible leg cramps! As PP have said, bananas and stay hydrated. I had one Saturday and my calf muscle is still sore! I ended up sticking my claf in one of those Shiatsu massage thingys and making it worse! GL!

  • Yup! I get them all the time now.

Eat banana's or Kiwi's. They are high in potassium which will help. Drink as much water as you can. And when you get them try pushing/ massaging the arch of your foot. That helps me.

Oh! Good idea! I'll try that next time... also, if you flex your toes back, that helps instantly! (Imagine stretching out the calf muscle as you stretch your toes back!)

  • I use the flexing toes trick as well. This just started for me this past week and luckily I can flex quickly enough that it doesn't completely grab the muscle. It's not helping me get any sleep though!
  • I got one in my shin the other night in the middle of the night!!! Holy crap that hurt.....stayed for like 15 minutes.

  • i get them a lot at night when i switch from a fetal side lying position to having my legs stretched out and flexing the feet hard and fast will definitely instantly reduce and/or relieve the pain.

I've also noticed I feel like i have a dead leg after walking upstairs mostly on my right side - kind of near my hip/butt area. Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Pull your foot and toes towards you and it will instantly relieve it.  I've also heard drinking more milk or consuming more calcium helps.  I had them all the time with my first DD, but I haven't really gotten them this time around.

Same with me. I haven't had bananas in the house for a couple of weeks so I really need to pick some up. I really want to stretch out in bed before rolling out but every time I try, I get a random cramp in my upper calf or foot :(

  • I find stretching my calves out before bed and getting exercise helps a lot. I haven't had a single leg cramp since 20 weeks once I started stretching them really good

  • I have one of those bean bag hot/cold packs that I keep in the freezer -- it helps A LOT -- I usually get them only at night.
