Success after IF

B2B IUIs?

Hey ladies,

I had another question for those of your who had successful IUIs. Is it worth it to do back to back IUIs? I believe my insurance will view that as 2 IUIs and I only get covered for 6, so I wasn't sure if it increases your chances enough to be worth it.

Thanks!

I believe that a well timed single IUI has the same success rate.  Well timed as in 36 hours post trigger.  BUT you have to make sure you aren't surging on your own or it's hard to time it.  B2B are often done when you're surging on yoru own and they can't quite control the timing of ovulation.

Also, if you have MFI, the B2B might not be a great option.  My husband can go from 60% motility to nothing the next day.

A lot of REs are using lupron with IUIs now.  It helps the follicles grow at the same rate and also helps suppress the Lh surge, which helps with timing things well.  The cost of the lupron should be well below the cost of an IUI,  so it might be worth looking into.

ETA: I see now that you're on clomid.  I don't know if they do lupron with clomid, I've only ever used it with injects.

  • I did b2b IUI's with my first pregnancy and a single IUI with my second pregnancy. I had sucessful b2b IUI and failed b2b IUI's. So it can certainly work either way.

When my RE found out we were paying out of pocket he told me not to do b2b IUIs anymore. He said doing b2b will increase your chances of getting pregnant, but it doesnt double your chances of getting pregnant and it will cost you double the amount. Do you have MFI? If not, I would think that 1 IUI around 36 hours after trigger should be fine. Then just do TI as well.

    Good luck!

  • Statistically there is not a benefit to doing back to back IUIs.
