Hi all! I am new here, i have been over on the December 2011 board and just found this! I am 13 weeks and i have been told my other bumpies that it's not too early to start investigating daycare options. Especially since the good ones fill up, and more so those with good infant care programs. I live in Oakley and would like to find something in the Oakley/Hyde Park area... or close by. Does anyone have any recommendations? THANKS!! Sorry if this question has been posted a million times.
Re: Brand new here, daycare question
Hello, welcome!
This is a great board!
I am not much help about daycare, but hopefully someoen chimes in.
Hello. And welcome! I will tell you that the daycare options in the Oakely/Hyde Park area are very limited if you want a daycare facility. The only options I'm aware of are The Goddard School on Redbank Road (Slightly out of Oakley), the Hyde Park Play school (in Oakley on Drake Ave) and Knox Presbyterian near Hyde Park sq on Observatory.
We looked at Goddard and Hyde Prk Play school and picked Goddard. (We're not very religious and weren't comfortable with the church option. DH was an early childhood major, so he was pretty picky and just liked Goddard better, although both places have excellent reviews. Also, you're not too early AT ALL. When we looked at the HPPS they had a 12 month wait.
Good luck!
I student taught at Knox (quite a few years ago) the curriculum did not include anything religious. It was a very nice daycare.
I'm so glad that you posted this! I live in Hyde Park so I'm hoping to find a daycare in the same area, but I have been nearly as proactive as you (I'm 5 months). I recently realized that if I don't get our name on a wait list soon then I won't have any options come January.
I visited the Goddard School today and really liked it, but I don't really have anything to compare it to yet. I appreciate everyone's opinions.
Oh, and I go to Knox Church and the preschool there is operated completely independently from the church so you won't find any religious curriculum. (And I don't think they're allowed to if they want to continue to get whatever government financial assistance they currently get.) Also, I believe that your child has to be at least 2 years old.
