TTC After a Loss

So frustrated...false positive?

The TTC process it so frustrating.  I had all kinds of symptoms that I've never had in the 2ww...nausea, swollen boobs and expected my period yesterday.  I POAS yesterday morning and got the faintest positive.  It was so faint and a cheap test that I just got in the shower and assumed I'd have to test again anyways.  My husband came into the bathroom and saw the faint line too (w/o me mentioning it to him).  So I sort of thought I was PG all day yesterday and stopped to buy less cheap tests for today.  Last night I had the faintest of faint brown spot when I wiped.  This morning, another slight brown spot but I decided to test anyways.  No line at all.  Today I have been expecting AF to start and nothing yet but more really faint brown spots.  I still have wierd nausea and cramps going on.  I dont' know what to think.  Why did I get a positive yesterday if AF is going to come afterall.

Also, if it helps, my temps were down yest and today from the highest point.  However they are still above my coverline even today.

Sorry for the rant...I just wish we could all snap our fingers and get what we wanted in these situations!

  • Sounds like you had a chemical pregnancy. It means that you impanted but for some reason the pregnancy could not sustain itself.  If I were you I would give the doctor's office a call and just let them knwo what happened so that it is in your chart. They may want you to get a beta too

  • But if it was a chemical pregnancy, wouldn't I likely still get a positive on today's test?  Thanks for your input!

  • What brand was that first test?  Do you have a picture of the lines you saw?  Although false positives are rare, they can happen in as much as you thought you saw a line when you really didn't.  I hope it was a bad test, but a blood test can tell you for sure.  It's possible the first test was more sensitive and picked up the elevated hCG from a chemical pregnancy, but the second test wasn't as sensitive.  I would call the doc and get a blood test.  I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

  • Not necessarily. Especially if you are already spotting. But if you go in for a beta test there is a chance there is still hcg detectible in your system.  Did you use first morning urine this morning to test? ALso, what kind of test did you take this morning? I would call the doctor (it doesn't hurt to).
  • I would call your Dr. and go in for HcG testing.  I experienced this same thing with my ectopic.  I see you have had an ectopic before as well which puts you at a much more increased risk of having another one.  With my ectopic I got a very light positive one day, a negetive test the following day, & then I started spotting.  I still went in for HcG testing and finally discovered the ectopic via u/s at around 7 weeks (my Dr. expected the ectopic all along due to the low & non-doubling HcG, spotting, eventual one-sided pain, etc.).  I don't mean to scare you, but I think it would be a good idea to get checked out.  Good luck!
