I'm contemplating getting a Roomba. I always thought they could never work but they've been around for a long time now so I'm thinking a.) they must've worked all along or b.) they have improved. If you have any experience with a Roomba please let me know your thoughts. Good? Bad? If it helps, this

I really like our roomba. We have three dogs, a toddler and a baby on the way. With that being said, it is not our only vacuum cleaner. Anyway, we use it on the second floor of our house which is wall to wall carpets (except we have tile in the bathrooms). Our dogs are mostly confined to the first floor of our house.
Cons (1) I can't imagine anyone with pets or multiple kids only using a roomba vacuum. (2) the container where the dirt is collected is kind of small. It fills up and has to be emptied everytime I use it. Sometimes it does not finish the job before getting filled up. (3) I feel like I replace the filter frequently. I get them at bed bath and beyond and they are a bit more expensive than I would like. ;-)
Pros (1) there is no other vacuum cleaner that is going to be able to clean under the king size beds, under dressers, in closets and under cribs like the roomba. (2) I love that it just runs automatically.
I like it because I can turn it on and leave or do something else while it works. But we have a large furry dog, so after it does the kitchen/dining room where the dog is confined I have to take it out to the garage and use the heavy duty shop vac to clean the fur out of it.
