We've got a wedding this weekend that I need to buy a gift for.  Typically, I'd spend about $50 on a wedding gift.  However, this wedding has been really expensive so far.  The bachelor party was an all day affair (that the groom planned ) and I was at the bachelorette party, paid for her drinks that night and bought her a gift.  It's a destination wedding so there are travel costs, too.  Granted, the stuff that I've listed are typical costs that are incurred when you're involved with a wedding - I get that.  (Neither one of us is in the wedding.)

Anyway, to get to my point, will I be a real cheapa$$ if I buy them a $30 gift?
Be honest here.  They'll point it out if I am so I'd rather hear it from you guys.

If it's a destination wedding, I think that getting yourself there is the gift. My step-sister had a destination wedding and I only made it because my dad paid for my ticket. DH was unable to attend as we bought a house right before she announced she was getting married in Cabo.
She seemed to think it was a great vacation for everyone. Personally, I would much rather have gone to Paris and the tickets were the same amount since she decided to get married over Memorial Day weekend.
I don't get destination weddings where you invite 150 people and expect for them all to attend. Oh, and are pissed when people can't afford it. Or that they can't be there for the entire week before because they are teaching and it's the last week of school.
Clearly I've turned this into a personal rant. Sorry for highjacking.

No problem! I could go on and on about my thoughts on this whole situation. Seriously, we've spent wayyy too much already and DH just doesn't understand why I'm frustrated about it. Yes, they're more his friends but they aren't generous people AT ALL, which is really the main reason I'm so frustrated. Ugh, I don't even want to get into because I'll get all worked up.
I ordered the cheaper gift. (Thanks for all the input.) I'm sure I'll have fun but like you said, I'd much rather spend the $ on a vacation of my choice.
