Haven't been eating anything extra...anyone else?

Hi ladies! I almost feel like I haven't been eating enough. I know they say to go by the rule of adding just one or two small snacks a day to our normal diet, but I haven't been hungry enough to want or need them. Anyone else not eating "for 2?" I am wondering if the hunger will hit me a little later on instead, but I almost feel guilty about it; like I should make myself eat something even though I don't really feel like (it's not because I am nauseous, just not hungry). What are you ladies doing to get your extra calories? Are you wanting to eat them?

  • I feel like this a lot too. To fill the void I try to drink my calories with a fruit smoothie with added protein. That makes me feel better. Being this is my second, I know the hunger will def. hit eventually!!

  • I'm pretty hungry, but I'm not sure if I'm *more* hungry than before. I used to work out pretty hard core, so I was staving all the time. I'm still working out, but my intensity is less and I'm probably eating about the same as pre-pregnancy. Therefore, I'm probably getting in that extra 200-300 cals a day. I know in the first trimester, we didn't even really *need* more calories at all at that point. I would just aim for nutritious food, to the point of keeping you full and not worry about it too much.

Not sure if you're counting calories, but I'm eating about 1800 - 2000 a day. Somedays I'm famished, others are pretty normal so I don't beat myself up too much over it.

  • The 300-500 extra you need is equivalent to a bowl of cereal or a scoop of ice cream. It's not THAT much more food.

  • As long as you're getting in a pretty good diet and you PNV, I wouldn't worry about it unless your doctor is worried. I, on the other hand, have been feeling more hungry, but I can't eat a whole lot in one sitting. I eat about half of what I used to per meal, so I'm hungry more often. If you were eating anything that was reduced in calories, like a salad dressing, yogurt or cheese, you could induldge yourself and go for the regular version to get more calories in.

  • I seriously have been.   I went from eating 1200 calories a day, on average, pre-pregnancy, to around about 3000 a day, on average, now.  It's insane.  It worries me, really, but my weight gain is still completely on target.  The thing I tell myself - and this should work for you, too - is that my body (or the babies) is/are telling me what I need.  Some days I'm not as hungry as others.  I just go with a 'eat when I'm hungry and don't when I'm not' mindframe and I'm not worried about the calorie counts other than having an idea of what they are.  All I know is if I don't eat when I'm hungry because 3000 calories seems excessive - I pay for that decision with feeling like utter h e double hockeysticks and even morning sickness, still.

  • I'm not eating for two. I got food poisoning a couple weeks ago and haven't felt the same since. I even lost 3 lbs from my last OB appt. OB doesn't seem concerned, so I just eat when I'm hungry. I can't eat as much at a meal, but I do snack more than I used to pre-pregnancy.
  • I feel i dont eat as much as i should. I have gotten where i will be starving but get the food and then eat 2 bites and im done! My husband says we cant go out (joking) cause i will want to eat so bad and order and then it comes and im full. I hope this passes soon but i just havent wanted any food lately.

  • SO glad to hear Im not the only one with a minimal appetite (less than before I was pg even).... Even when Im hungry I feel like I get full quickly and after eating very little.

I have gained 4lbs in 15 weeks so not a ton but not loosing weight either. I'm also working out at 30-60 minutes/day and STILL don't feel like I can eat very much......

    You're definitely not alone

  • I haven't been eating more, but I have been trying to add in things I don't normally eat, like fruit. I just usually eat what's convenient, but lately I've been bringing fruit into work to make sure I eat at least 2 a day.
