how long was your anatomy scan?

we are going tomorrow for the anatomy scan. My husband wants to stay for the whole scan and then my appointment afterwards, but he has to go to work.   He can be a little late, but not over an hour late.  How long did yours take? Just so he has an idea.

Re: how long was your anatomy scan?

  • Ours took 2 1/2 hours.  Our little guy was moving around and they couldn't get a good look at his kidney's.

  • Mine took a little over 1.5 hours.

  • Mine was about an hour, and then the MFM dr. came in to talk with us. So we were there for about an hour and a half total. It depends on how well your LO cooperates with the tech. Mine didn't, so we were there a little longer.

We went back for a "check up" scan last Friday because the tech forgot to get pics of her toes. They went over everything again, and it only took a half hour because LO cooperated :)

    Good luck!

  • With DD I think it was about an hour. Tomorrow is my A/S with this LO. It will probably be around the same length.

  • Ours was seriously only about 20-25 minutes. Our US Tech is like a ninja with that wand! She is really quick, but you can tell she knows what she is doing and what she is looking at. She told us what everything is and was super nice, just quick!

  • Wow, I am surprised that it took so long for some people.  We had ours today and it probably took around 30-40 minutes.

  • Mine took just over an hour, my little man was super active and I had a "on trial tech" so she was a little slower than usual and I had to be checked over by a senior tech before leaving.

  • I'm sure it all depends on how active baby is and how long it takes to get the measurements.  Our's took less then an hour.  Good luck and enjoy!

  • We were there for over two hours.  To be fair, the first 30-45 minutes (I can't remember) was waiting time because they got so backed up that day.  The actual u/s lasted maybe another 45 minutes, then we met with the perinatologist which was another 20ish minutes or so.
  • The actual scan was about 30 minutes.

  • Our actual scan was maybe 20ish minutes. The MFM did it himself and he was quick.

  • My appointment was at 1pm. I left the house at 12:30, got there at 12:45, got in the room at 1pm (and they started)....they were pretty much done by 1:30pm but wanted the baby to flip so the chambers of the heart could be checked. Bounced/Walked around from 1:30 until 1:40. Tech came back in and check the heart and also the stomach (which was empty when I first came in and hard to see). I was out of there at 2pm....and back at work at 2:20pm.

So including travel time to and from the appointment and the appointment, it was almost 2hrs.

  • The first one was 20 minutes and the second one (a level 2 a/s) was almost two hours.  My little guy is breech and squirmy, so it took awhile to get all of his measurements.

  • Had my anatomical scan yesterday - I was 45 mins in the exam room.
It was sooo cool to see the baby opening and closing its mouth, sucking its thumb,  checking the measurements of the limbs - baby is doing GREAT!!!

  • With LO1 my A/S was literally 5 minutes long.  I felt so jipped!   The tech put the wand away, and as she was walking OUT THE DOOR, she said "It's a Boy!"!  She didnt even show me his boy parts!          With LO2, I had my A/S last friday, and it lasted about 20 minutes, and she was SUPER active!

This.  And my tech even mentioned that the baby moved around an incredible amount (I can only imagine if he had held still for her!).  Of course there was much more waiting before and then for the doctor to come in, and he was probably there for 5-10 minutes.
