So much for our routine

We had just gotten it down, just gotten DS used to the schedule and then summer classes start. DS tends to fall asleep around 7:15ish. He half wakes up around 8 so we take advantage of that and feed him and he's usually out by 8:30. Somewhere in the time between 7 and 9 our dog has to take his post-dinner/pre-bed walk. Usually DH does it but sometimes we'll switch off. DH now has classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9:30.Yesterday he got called into work for an emergency so I had to juggle the dog and DS. I failed and he ended up in our room again. Tonight I was determined to juggle better. The walk at 8 got DS wide awake and super energized, damn hot stiffling summer oxygen. It took over an hour just to get him calm enough to sleep and I have my doubts he'll make it very long. I don't know how to readjust him to this routine. It's hot outside and the sun is far from down at 8, I don't see how he won't get wide awake but also don't see a way around it.

  • Do you have to take the dog on an actusl walk or can you just step outside, let him do his business, and then go back in?  I put LO down at night and then take the dog out with my video monitor in tow.  It's the only option I have while DH is deployed.

  • We have one of "those" dogs that pretty much refuses to pee in it's own yard. Maybe I can convince him to hold it? It took 2 hours to get LO to sleep last night. He slept for 20 minutes before he woke back up... needless to say, he ended up in our room again. I suck at this sleep training thing Sad

  • Thankfully I have a dog that will pee anywhere resembling outside, no matter where it is.  Super house broken, and will never ever pee inside, but his grass, your grass, the sidewalk, that tree over there...he couldn't care less if he tried.  Keep up the sleep training.  As much as it sucks now, remember that persistance and consistency are key.  You might just have to retrain the dog a little while you're at it so he will change to your schedule somehow.  Good luck!
