So I am new at the whole babysitter scene, and have a question for you ladies.
We have a mother's helper come on the days I work from home. I text her this morning saying that C just went down for a nap, so she could come an hour later if she wanted to since there was nothing else for her to do at the time. I said if she wanted to come at the regular time, that was fine. She opted to come one hour later, which is absolutely fine.
My question is, do I pay her for the actual hours here, or the usual pay, since it was my idea to tell her she could come later? Like I said, I am new to all of this, and honestly have no clue.
Re: WWYD? Babysitter etiquette question
I think you *could* pay her one hour less, just because you gave her the option (come at usual time OR come one hour late). She could have come at the usual time if she were concerned about the money.
If you want to be awesome (and hopefully lay the groundwork for a positive relationship) you could just pay her the extra hour. It would also avoid any possible resentment or confusion if she's expecting the hour's pay.
What kind of agreement about pay do you have set up? If you told her that you would pay her on a daily or weekly basis then I think you should pay her. If you have it set up as an hourly assignment, then no.
I think you should just pay her. There might be a day you need her to stay a little late and it will all even out.
It was a casual conversation, but it was an hourly agreement. I have no problem if it were her call, then she wouldn't get the extra hour. My worry is that since it was my call, and she was ready to be here at 9, that I should still pay her.
She is a college student. She is usually here 9-4, but today C's nap was a bit early so I told her to come at 10. I don't mind the extra hour, as it won't break me. I just want to be consistent. Of course C woke up a half hour later haha, but it was fine.
Choose to be awesome!
I would pay her for her usual.
