Has anyone taken LO in a pool yet?

It is SO hard to find swim wear for 3 month olds....and they don't make pool floats, etc for that size.  I think it's b/c sunscreen isn't meant for under 6 mos but my pedi said it was ok, better than not having it.  Just curious what you all are doing?  Keeping LO for now, all summer, or maybe only taking them in pool in the evening?  Share please, and thanks!

Re: Has anyone taken LO in a pool yet?

  • We went swimming with LO last weekend. She wore a normal swimsuit that was size 3-6 months. I had a sun hat on her and she was covered in sunblock. When we went it was a little after 2pm and she only stayed in the pool for a half hour. After that she went inside with my grandma and I stayed outside to swim laps. Oh and I just held on to her the whole time she was in the pool. I plan on taking her again tomorrow if I have the time. It was a really fun way to bond with LO.

  • Target has swim tops (full sleeve) in size small intended for 6mos+... I have a SKINNY 2 1/2 mo old and it fits her perfectly b/c it stretches. I will not be putting her in any public pools until she is at least 6mos old but we are taking her to my mothers pool for the first time tomorrow.  She will also be wearing a sun hat. BRU sells a red white and blue sunhat that fits her perfectly as well.

  • I got a one piece zip up suit for Luke with a hood that looks like a shark's head from GAP.  I also got him a frog float from Babies R Us.  We'll take him in my parents' pool when the water gets warmer

  • LO has a swim shirt and shorts and a floaty from BRU that is meant for 6 mo olds. It's in the shape of a police car, really cute, and his legs go through and everything else is above water, and it's all in a shade thing to where he won't get burnt. It's meant for babies who can hold their head up, so I just stand there and keep him upright and let him kick, and he loves it!

  • We've taken LO in several times.  My mom's pool is 90+degrees.  I bought a rash guard from Target in the infant section, the first was 6 month, the second was 12 months, but they were both too small for him.  He is about 15 lbs.  We just went swimming when the sun was going down.  He loves it!

  • We took her in my dad's salt water pool and she liked it.  We just held her -- we were only in there for a short time.  She had on a bathing suit from Target (6 month, but it fit her), sunblock (CA Baby) and a hat.

  • We put a 3-6 mo. swimsuit on her with sunscreen and a hat and put her in the water in the late afternoon when our pool is shaded by the house.  We hav ea big step in the shallow end and sit her up and she kicks and splashes.  It's just like a big bath to her.  I usually try to give her a bath pretty quickly afterwards because I don't like the idea of all those pool chemicals being on her sweet skin...but that might just be the OCD kicking in.  :)
