Those who have had Pho (Davez I know you have)

I decided that I am going to try some for lunch today.  Looking at the menu (take out), which should I get: Pho tai (the steak) or Pho ga (the chicken)?  I'm a Pho virgin, so which would you suggest?

This is what the description on the menu says: Aromatic beef broth infused with star anise, cinnamon, ginger and other
traditional spices, garnished with fresh basil, bean sprouts, long leaf, lime
and hoisin sauce. Served with fresh rice noodle and a topping choice of:

Pho tai

Pho ga

(there are other toppings, like seafood or tofu but I'm not to hip on those).

Re: Those who have had Pho (Davez I know you have)

  • I've tried them all and the beef is always the most flavorful.  Usually there are many different options for beef, but if there's only one, go for that!

  • chickenschmicken. Get the Beef. (Ga) And I skip the hoisin, but Davez loves it. Spice it up and slurp!

  • Personally, I'm a chicken fan. I like the milder flavor. I also add a ton of lemon in my pho. Best part of pho is you can control the ingredients, since most come on the side anyway.
  • Thanks! I'll let you know how it is.  Is Hoisin spicy?

  • Most definitely the beef!  Hoisin is not spicy at all, IMO.
  • I usually get the steak Pho. Then I pick out all the stomach and tendon and yucky stuff that are still in there anyway even though they are not supposed to be in there and I give them to my DH to eat. But maybe the place you go to isn't like that.

  • I usually go with the beef.  The ones i have been too have all sorts of beef combos.  I stay away from the tripe (lining of the stomach or something) and go for very basic beefs.

It is so yummy! I think i want some now:)  I especially like the crunchy bean sprouts.
