Maggie had her 3 year well visit today. The doctor felt her belly and was concerned because she felt something hard. I told her Maggie often has trouble pooping and holds it, and when she finally goes she clogs the toilet..... but she wanted to be sure it was just indeed doodoo so we had to go to Children's for an x-ray.
Fortunately we didn't have to wait too long, and aside from an x-ray tech who talked baby talk to Maggie--"hey wittle giwrl, you want to way on the twable like a big girwll?" (UGH! It was like I was trapped in a Wonder Pets episode) it was painless.
We came home and lo and behold, girlfriend did a big doo in the potty and then the pedi called and said it was just a very full intestine. The size of an adult apparently. Poor baby. So we're going on the Miralax regiment for a while to get her more regular.
Re: Oh, pediatricians.
sorry, but I had to laugh when you said she clogs the toilet...the fact that a 3 year old can do that amazes me. lol
Hopefully the miralax will regulate her and do the trick. Have they ever suggested stool softeners like colace or something along those lines?
Sorry you had to go through all that, you'd think they'd know by now that mom knows best! Hope your little love regulates herself.
No, she suggested the Miralax to help get her gut back to a normal size. I'm not crazy about using it but we will give it a go.
Awww... poor Maggie! Hopefully the Mirilax gets things back to normal!
DD has been on Miralax for well over a year. The stuff has helped her tremendously. We can tell a difference if we forget to give it to her even one day. She started on a full adult dose for a couple weeks to get everything back to normal, and since then she's been on half an adult dose daily. It took some trial and error to find the perfect dose for her.
The cheapest place I've found the stuff is Costco, although they did slightly raise the price recently when they redid the packaging.
That stinks your pedi sent her for an x-ray without trying the Miralax first, especially given her bowel history.
We have had similar issues since her birth. It is always rock hard. The GI doc has us give her a cup of 100% juice every day to help. I find it really does. Hopefully once things get back to normal for her, she can use juice or prunes instead of having to be on meds all the time.
Maybe she needs coffee or white castle or taco bell. LOL!
Oh, man. Is it wrong that your description of events made me snort? I hope the Miralax does the trick for her.
This made me laugh, too.
