So many inspiring women and lots of helpful information on this board!
I am researching the Bradley Method and am wondering, aside from connecting with other couples, is there anything in the classes that I can't get from the McCutcheon book? I am not against attending the 12-week class, but I wonder if it is worth the $300?
Re: new to board and bradley question
The class was a better fit for us than just reading the book, because while I'm the type to read birth books, DH is not. Attending the classes ensured we both got the same info, in a helpful format for DH. It was also kind of a bonding experience to go to the classes together, and nice for DH to see other husbands in an expectant father role.
I think we also got some other info from the classes that is not in the book. Stuff like where to find local doulas, and the instructor recommended all the moms-to-be attend a LLL meeting during their pg. That alone was a great tip, as I found my LLL group to be a great resource, and going before the baby was a good move because I didn't have a newborn in tow while finding the place, etc.
I am really appreciating the social and interactive nature of our class. Meeting some peers has been really great for me.
Also, I don't think that DH would be as involved if it was all just reading. Going to the classes together has been nice, and it is getting him interested and involved in the process. He is taking it really seriously and like a PP said, he gets to meet other dads... And for me, going to the classes motivates me to do my exercises and be on top of my diet because I know if I don't, DH will call me out in class, haha.
So the classes aren't necessary, but they are really helpful!
This!
All of this. Our instructor has been helpful on a variety of things. Last week she showed us different types of baby carriers. This week she is showing how cloth diapers work for those interested.
And there is NO way DH would read the book by himself.
