Food Allergy

What Finger Foods Could I Try?

I feel like I am holding my DD back foodwise. She is allergic to egg, gluten, dairy, chicken, and peanuts. I do give veggies and sliced bananas as finger foods. But other than that, I still feed her baby food. Usually, whatever I have cooked for dinner she cannot have. I feel like she is getting too big for baby food. And when we go to a restaurant, there is very limited items she can have. So what can you suggest for me to keep around to feed her? What are some things I can easily grab if we are going to be out and about?

Re: What Finger Foods Could I Try?

  • For restaurants my safest item is an ipad :)

that's my safe treat for when we go out to eat. He wont even reach for our food if elmo is on!  it's the only way we dine with our son. Not to keep him quite but to keep him from grabbing our food.

if i do want to order something for him, I usually order avocado slices  or cucumber slices.  He LOOOVES cucumber slices!!!!!!

at home.. i would try sliced boarshead turkey and make little rolled up cigars for her to eat. (if she's old enough).  maybe put some sliced cucumber in it for a crunch.

guacamole is a huge one in my house -but not so much a finger food -it's messy.

everything else i think of has gluten.. wish i could help more.

  • another finger food that has saved me for lunch and as a snack is almond butter balls (you can use sun butter).

You take a little almond butter on a fork and dip it in rice krisp cereal (i think it's gluten free) and make little balls with (you can even mix the almond butter with a little jelly).  my son LOVES it

also, you can get chex cereal (gluten free) and put a little almond butter (or PB or sunbutter) and make a little sandwich. (add jelly for sweetness).  I use this sometimes on the go.

    both are pretty healthy also.

I think this is where i have a photo of the chex sandwich-> https://youngallergies.blogspot.com/2010/12/things-are-looking-good.html from my blog. but i'm not 100% sure since my work blocks the photos so i couldn't see them by going into my blog.

and I THINK this is the rice balls photos lol.. i'm pretty sure it is.. from my photo blog. https://dailyphotoaddiction.blogspot.com/2011/01/day-197-almond-butter.html

  • Thanks. I will try the Chex.
  • they make sweet potato butter..we get it at Whole Foods but I'm sure it can be ordered online if you dont have one near by! We use this a lot for finger food....gluten free tortilla wraps cut into squares and add a little sweet potato butter on it.  We don't know about tree nuts yet so we're being cautious of everything "nut" related.
  • Chex, Cucumber, Avocado, sweet potato fries, semonlia pasta (dairy/egg/gulten free we get it from Whole foods), Ian's Gulten Free allergy friendly fish sticks (whole foods or Giant), Back to Nature Graham Sticks (not sure about the gluten part on that), peas, cooked carrots, green beans etc.
