Has anyone tried anyway to use the Ergo without the infant insert? We are approaching a heat wave and that insert thing is so hot. I want to be able to wear LO and the Ergo seems like a good idea except for that. I also have the Moby but LO doesn't seem to be a huge fan.
Also what are your plans for sun coverage?
Re: Ergo without infant insert
I don't have any advice about the Ergo, I bought the bECO Butterfly II for that reason, it has an infant insert but it's just cotton, and thinner than the outside of the carrier. My moby is UPF50 but it's so hot, I don't think it'll work for sun protection very well.
I bought 2 different PHYSICAL sunblocks for DS for when we're in Florida in August. While I'm home and it's practical, we stay in between 10am and 2pm. I bought a cover that fits the infant seat as well as the stroller when he's older that provides UPF50+ as well, and is mesh on the sides to allow airflow. I always put a hat on DS and I have some baby banz but so far, he just cries and cries when I try to put them on him.... they're still a wee bit big anyway!

This works sometimes for us...you may also have to wear the hip part higher (more around your waist). I'm still using my baby k'tan because without the insert, LO isn't too thrilled with the Ergo but we're close to having the head control!
I don't use it, she's a big baby and as long as I froggy her leg, she's plenty supported. Just make sure you can kiss LO's head easily and you'll know they are positioned correctly.
My DD hates the Moby.
