Problems with BCP? Or is it normal?

After having my first baby, I chose the pill as my new form of birth control. I didnt start it right away (along with my first period after having my baby). The next month I got my period I took the first pill on the first day I started. From then on, my period continued for 3 1/2 weeks straight! I tried contacting my OB but didnt receive a call back so I stopped taking the pill. 4 days after that, my period stopped. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Is it normal???

    No, but I did have breakthrough bleeding/spotting off and on during my first month on the mini pill. My ob said it was normal with that pill. HTH!

    A few questions.  When did you first get your period after having the baby?  I assume you had already stopped your PP bleeding?  And as far as I know from being on the pill for a good chunk of my life, you should always start the new pack of pills about a week AFTER you get your period.  Not on the first day of it.  But I know the extra hormones can definitely make you spot while you get used to it.  I'd call your OB, and use back up BC in the meantime!

    Well I had my baby 2/6/2011 and actually had two normal periods and then this long one started on 5/10/2011. I took it the first day of my period because the pill instructions said you could either take it the first day of your period or the Sunday following your start of your period, that way you wont ever have your period on the weekends. And this wasnt any spotting either, it was a normal period, just EXTREMELY long! Confused And the reason I am asking is because I no longer have medical insurance, so therefore I no longer have an OB to go to.. I had always remembered though when I was in high school I had a friend who was on the pill and ALWAYS had her period, and then I had another friend who NEVER got her period. This is why I always stayed away from the pill, I felt if it could cause such irregularity... and now look hahaha Im one of them!

    I've always had good luck with the pill and I get regular periods on it, but I agree, it depends on the person!  If you aren't reacting well to it, and you're worried about cost, maybe just use condoms?  Even though they suck.  :)

    Most areas have a free women's clinic, or at least a Planned Parenthood - you might want to check those out! GL!

    I feel like I remember having a similar problem once upon a time.  But it's been a while so I honestly can't tell you much. 

    What I can tell you from being on the pill for years is that you don't take the first pill until after your period has stopped or almost ended.  Most women do a Saturday or Sunday start.  The last week of pills in the pack are just sugar pills (so you stay in the habit of taking the pill, but you don't have to take them) and during that week you will get your period.  Then you start your new pack.  Does that make sense?  I'm wondering if part of the problem was that you started the pack when you were on your period.

    You may also be able to talk to your pharmacist (for free!) and they can talk to you about taking the pill.  My dad is a pharmacist and when I have questions about a prescription or taking a medicine I always call him before I call the doctor.
