Lunch Ideas for the Zoo?

looking for lunch ideas to take to the zoo in the hot hot summer... Don't really wanna lug a cooler.... fruit and veggies work for snack part and I took bottled waters frozen in the "bottle bag" last time which was perfect... but what "main dish" could we take that won't go bad after 3 hours in the heat? Last time we ate actual lunch there and DH said the food there was HELLA expensive so we can't do that anymore.

thoughts?

Re: Lunch Ideas for the Zoo?

  • I'd just do pb sandwiches. I've been freezing yogurt tubes and they have been good for our recent picnics. Have fun!

  • Ditto the pb&j. I've frozen individual servings of applesauce and it's usually a good cool slushy treat. What about hummus and pitas?
  • Our zoo doesn't allow us to carry food in.  Must eat there or picnic in the park outside... In which case, we'd leave a cooler in the car for things that needed it.  We'd probably just do sandwiches, carrots and a bag of chips or crackers.  String cheese for those that eat it and you can keep it with the frozen water bottles.
