VENT: Speeding ticket

I got a speeding ticket on the way to Florida at the beginning of May.  It is a TINY little town, and they are a known speed trap.

I am guilty...I was speeding.  Whatever, I shouldn't have been and I know that.

My beef?  This tiny little, two cop, one red light town gives enough tickets that they have a website that's sole purpose is paying your traffic violation.

Great, so I logged on to pay my $186.00 fine, and lo and behold, there is a TWENTY DOLLAR fee to process my payment online.

That is just bull.  I get that $20 is nothing in the grand scheme of things, but it irks the crap out of me.

Had I known there was a $20 fee, I would have gone two weeks ago and gotten a money order and mailed it to them.

Grrr...

Okay, vent over.  Back to regularly scheduled programming...

Those little fees are really annoying.  I bought a dress from a small boutique and paid $8.95 shipping.  The stamp on the package was $2.65.  I was a bit annoyed.

    I feel your pain

  • So annoying. It makes me so mad..they should be out fighting real crime.

I got pulled over the other day for making an illigal U turn infront of the school that we take baby classes from. The ticket was 145$ super expenisve plus I would get 3pnts! I have a neighbor who is a cop so I brought the ticket of to him and he is going to take care of it. Which is soo nice..but still super annoying..and I still have to show up at traffic court and plead not guilty..

It's part of the job. It of course stinks when your the one who gets caught but, it's still part of the job. Criminals don't walk around with signs on saying "I'm a murder", "I'm a rapist", "I like little kids"...you get the idea. Of lot of those people are found by way of little traffic stops for "small" traffic violations.

I get really frustrated at comments like the one in bold b/c the police/deputies, the same ones you bad mouth will be the first ones to show up and help you out when you need them no matter what you have to say about them. Officers are just regular people who have regular families who have a job to do, it's not their fault you do something you should not have and got caught.

There is no such thing as a speed trap! Nobody forces you to speed you do it one your own and you get caught. There are laws about how close an officer can sit to a city limit/county line sign, how far away from a change of speed limit sign you have to be, etc. Yeah, some smaller towns have less going on so they work traffic.....it is what it is.... Either way you look at it nobody forced you to drive above the speed limit.

Not trying to get on peoples bad side here but, I really hate hear how bad the police are but, the same people who talk negative about them are the first ones to cry to them. If you can't tell I am still certified officer (have not done it since DD was born did it for 7 years before her) and I'm married to a police officer. I often don't think the job is worth it b/c nobody else gives a crap if you live or die. It's not worth the loss to my family.

I also had a bad day at work, currently working at the 911 center and all people did was call and b!tch and moan and complain today (more than normal).

BTW- I totally get you are pissed about the $20 fee as I would be! Most places add a tone of fees. I've had tickets and crazy fees too, I totally get that!

I'm off all of my soap boxes nowWink

  • I feel your pain....we live in one of those small towns, and there was an article the other day in our town paper about how the police dept is struggling financially....guess what....2 days later I got pulled over for a seat belt violation (driving to the park, literally a 15 mph area, with less than a mile distance)....The cop was apologizing to me about how they're boss is making them crack down. So I got a $150 ticket...$50 for the ticket and $100 admin fee by the town.

    Gotta love small towns :-(

Heck no...I'm ALL for police and the work that they do.  I was speeding, and I freely admit that.

My beef is the $20 fee to pay my ticket online.  That is just ridiculous, IMO.

This little town is on the way to the Gulf beaches, and honestly, there really isn't another way (much less another GOOD way) to get from Montgomery to the Gulf beaches...and they pull over a TON of vacationers.  They make a TON of money that way...but I have to think of it from their perspective too.  If I lived in that tiny little town, I'd want the speeders pulled over and ticketed too.

The $186 burned bad enough...the $20 was just added insult to injury, lol.  I'll learn to slow down though ;-)

Oh I agree! They know they have a lot of travelers who will suck it up and pay online..... I have no idea how much it costs around here...  Everybody wants to nickle and dime you! I will say I did not know when I was on the road how much most of the fines were, I knew the cost of a few really $$$ ones.
