The weather around here has been so hot lately. By the end of the day I have been getting a little "puffy" and have been craving ice cold watermelon and cantaloupe like crazy. My grandma had 3 late summer babies (before A/C she reminded me) and was telling me about how hot and swollen she was by the end of her pregnancies. She said my grandpa would bring her watermelon to eat to keep her from getting really bloated.
I thought that was so cute of grandpa, and I figured eating watermelon to decrease bloating was just a country old wives tale. But... I googled it, and apparently watermelon is a natural diuretic. I had never heard that before. Grandpa wasn't crazy. I have an outdoor wedding coming up, and maybe I will load on watermelon at the buffet to keep me cool and keep my face from looking so puffy in pictures.
Re: Watermelon for swelling??
Yep! Totally works.
Most any other fruit with a high water content will work as well.
I chew ice chips like crazy for this very reason. I literally crave them lately.
I just finished a nice serving of watermelon and cateloupe. I can't get enough of either. The only significant swelling that I have noticed is my feet when I am on them for very long periods of time. My rings still fit the same.
I often eat watermelon for dessert, and this does lead to many more bathroom trips throughout the night. Oh well.
