How do I figure out my due date?

I know how you are supposed to do it--look at the first day of your last period.

Well, I started spotting on April 22, miscarried by April 24, and continued to bleed until April 30. And that was my last period.

How I managed to get pregnant, without trying at all, in the first cycle is beyond me.

So...what would you say would be the first day of that period?

  • Congratulations!

I think you're going to probably have to wait until your first appt and a dating u/s to get the most accurate approximation of your EDD.

When is your first appt?  I recently heard that a 7 week u/s is the best predictor of EDD (per a CNM, via my prenatal yoga instructor)

  • Oddly enough, I have an appointment on Thursday. It was supposed to be my annual pap smear! I guess we'll have to change it to a prenatal appointment!

  • EDD = 40w from the the first day of your last menstrual period

  • I think your going to have to have a Dr. tell you when they measure. I remember when I m/c they said the reason why drs. may say to wait one cycle is so they have a for sure last cycle date, without it they rely on ultrasound measurements.
  • Congrats! Wishing you lots of sticky baby dust! I would use your first day of full flow as the first day of your last period ( as if you we charting). Then cross check that with your u/s measurements.

  • Ok, clearly my response was totally oblivious to the other setup. How did I miss it. I'm sorry! Yes, an u/s in that situation would be the best way to estimate EDD, unless you feel like you can tell when you ovulated, and therefore add 38w?

Either way, it's all a guesstimate even with your doc. It's very rare (1%) that a baby will be born ON their actual due date.

    Congrats again, though.

  • I don't know how you figure your EDD but wanted to say CONGRATS!!!!

  • Congratulations!  If you had been charting or using OPK's at all and know when you ovulate then you could add 38 weeks to that date.  I would guess the ovulation date would be whatever is normal for you after the April 30th date.
