Pregnant after 35

totally exhausted

I am 5 wks and I am finding myself totally exhausted all the time. I know all the books and websites say when you're tired, rest but what do you do if you work?

I am falling asleep at my desk. No one at my work knows I'm PG becasue it's too early...we haven't even told our parents yet. I am trying to stay away from cafein haven't been having my moring coffee which is prob partly to blame.

Any suggestions on how to get through the work day when you're exhausted?

Re: totally exhausted

  • more sleep at night.  Unfortunately there's not a better answer.  The first tri is hard.  But it does get better!

  • Oh, sweetie, the first trimester SUCKS!  You have my sympathy.  One thought is snack on fruits and veggies all day, and I mean all day.  Just keep 'em by your desk and make sure you eat a tiny bit every hour.  The food might give you just enough fuel to keep going, plus it gives you something to focus on when you're so tired your eyes have started to cross.  Good luck!

Unfortunately, just like the other ladies said, it's the first tri fatigues and it sucks!  I was the same way at work and I was even drinking half calf coffee in the AM!  Nothing helped me!  I was in bed by 8:30 or 9 every night, but still falling asleep at my desk by 1 or 2:00.  It's just unavoidable, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  It does get better, so just hold on.  My energy didn't start coming back until the 13th or 14th week, but when it does, it feels awesome!  I still get tired, but NOTHING like before.  I can at least work an entire day without my eyes shutting by mid afternoon!!

  • Oh yes I remember those days. Absolute fatigue. In the first tri I could sleep 11 hours at night, plus a two or THREE hour nap on the weekends! Your body is busy making more blood and doing it's magic. I was lucky in that I was able to get home for a 'longer lunch' some days and sleep an hour or so. I think the answer it time and naps. Go to bed earlier if you can? And just know it won't last forever. And...congrats!!! ;-)

  • I completely feel your 'pain'.  I am now 13 weeks as of today.  Weeks 3-6 for me, I was very tired and I didn't even know at that time that I was pregnant.  I found out at 6 weeks (confirmed by the doctor at 8 weeks, which was when I told my Mom, sisters, REAL close friends, and boss... no one else knows yet).  I still find that I have sleepy spells now, but not always tired like I was in the beginning.  Most days, I come home from work and have a ton of things that need to be done, but I end up falling asleep on the couch.  Just like the other ladies have said, get more sleep at night (go to bed earlier), and keep fruits at your desk to snack on.  It will help.  You will still be tired, but it will help.

Well, just about time for my lunch... and then a nap!  Sleep  lol  Smile
