Penis infection in uncirc'd. boy

Hi - I am cross posting this from toddlers 24+

My poor DS (32 months old) has a penis infection. He was diagnosed with it at urgent care last night. I was horrified when I saw his penis yesterday afternoon because it was red and very swollen, like a balloon. The urgent care doc said it is a common infection in uncircumcised boys, and gave us a cleaning routine and two creams to rotate -- one is antibacterial and the other is antifungal. DS is in a lot of discomfort from it.

Has this happened to anyone else? What was the progression and how long did it take to heal completely?

  • ((hugs)) I don't have any experience with this, but I hope your LO feels better soon!

FWIW, I've heard that peens can be a lot like little girl parts; over-washing can upset the balance of good bacteria.  Be careful that you don't retract unless necessary to apply the medicine, keep harsh soap away, and add probiotics (yogurt etc) to his diet to make up for the antibiotic.  Poor little man!

  • My DS had this and is fine now, although he still has some minor ballooning (doesn't bother him at all though).  The infection went away quickly, but we had to use a steroid cream to help with the ballooning.  The urologist thought we'd have to circumcise but he's had no problems in 1.5 years now, so I think we're safe.  If you haven't seen a pedi urologist I'd recommend seeing one.  Page me if you have any ?s, I'm 1ht right now lol
  • Wow, thanks. I'll post an update when I have one so this thread useful for folks who have this happen to them in the future. No change yet...
  • How long has it been?  We used Lotromin for DS (basically treated it like yeast) but they also cultured to see which bacteria was causing it.  Hope he feels better soon!
