Success after IF

Alimentum users

We're going to go broke because of this stuff.  Seriously!  Currently a container lasts us about 3.5 days, and she's starting to increase her bottles.  We just got back from the pedi and he *definitely* wants her to stay on it.

So.  PLEASE tell me I'm missing out on something!  Is there some super-secret website with discounted Alimentum?  Coupons?  Anything to lessen the blow a bit?

(As a side note, interestingly, he didn't recommend RTF despite the fact that her diapers are as runny as they can be.  I'm thankful, I suppose, as that would be even more $$$!)

Re: Alimentum users

  • We had Nutramigen on both girls. Well we supplemented with it but it was crazy expensive.

I ended up using this website:

    https://www.abmarketunlimited.com/Similac-Formula.html

Also, some insurance companies will pay for it.

  • I spent a fair amount of time pricing out the powder back when DS was on it.  I found the cheapest to be on Amazon if you get free shipping (Prime).  I bought a case of it, which is 6 canisters for $129.  The stores all ranged from $25-26 per can.

For stores, the best price I found was Target or Meijers (I don't think those are down South).

It is awful...I feel your pain.  We are excited here b/c a new grocery opened and so far the RTF is $6.98 a bottle vs. $9.29 everywhere else.  I'm just waiting for them to raise it now that they know I buy 6 bottles per week.  He is eating us out of house and home.

  • P.s. The great news is that something does seem to be helping her!!
  • Did you try and get your insurance to cover it? Mine paid for it with Brady, I just had to pay my $12 co pay and they would give me 18 cans! With Nolan they denied the claim because my benefits changed, but my pedi appealed it for me. I would look into that.

    That is great news!

  • We bought all of our cans from ebay and never had an issue. I was worried at first, but they were MUCH cheaper. We never paid more than $15.50 per can. Trust me - I know how expensive they are!!! We are already saving in case our next baby has the same milk allergy :)

I do have 4 cans left. If you want them, I will ship them to you for the $15.50 per can (the big cans) plus shipping. I know that price can be harder to get on ebay, but it's out there.

  • I've heard that insurance might cover it, but haven't called to check on ours.....I guess I need to call, it's worth a shot.  My DD is eating us out of house and home!
  • I definitely feel your pain.  With my first he would only tolerate RTF Alimentum.  At one point we were spending about $300 in formula per month.  I found BRU actually had some of the best prices per case and then Hannaford next.  It stinks.  I also called Similac and told them about my DS and how we didn't budget for it and gave them a bit of a sob story and they said me a bunch of coupons and told me to call back when I ran out.  GL.

  • I feel your pain. It is expensive and so is Neocate. Break the bank but worth it. I have 4 cans. We stopped it because it no longer worked on DD. Send me an email at mrskiltlifter @ gmail.com and I will send them to you. They are taking up shelf space in my pantry! I would love for them to go to a good home.
