It looks like we'll be taking a little overnight trip to Winston-Salem to meet up with some of DH's family (it's a 1/2 way point of sorts). We'll be driving from the Raleigh area on a Friday evening and have all day Saturday (maybe staying over Saturday night). I'm looking for a good group dining location (most likely lunch) and somewhere to let E play ( good park, museum, historic attraction). I admit I have done no research yet and I'm starting here since I know there are a few WS ladies on the board. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it!
Edited to add - I think we'll be staying on the northside of WS in the University Holiday Inn (off University Drive).
Re: Daytrip to Winston-Salem, recs?
Sci Works is less than 10 min from where you are staying. The front desk there should be able to give you directions. It is a good place to take the little one. There is also the Childrens Museum that is downtown less than 20m maybe from your hotel. The hotel is right off 52 which is a good way to head downtown or if you want to stay off the hgiway just take a R out of the hotel and that leads you all the way downtown. A GPS will get you anywhere
AS for a place to eat there isnt a TON on that side of town. The standard Chilis etc but if you want something "local" that is good there are several places downtown as well. Ask the front desk again they can help. We love 4th Street Filling Station....and NOMA Urban Grill, may need reservations for both. Both great places......The ball park is also downtown cant miss it off of BUS 40 not sure if they are home this weekend or not but worth looking it up they have a good kids area. Thats a start for just a day trip. & there is always Old Salem.....in walking distance to the Childrens Museum as well. GL & enjoy your stay!
if you go to old salem, the children's museum is right in that area. and reynolda House/garden/village is pretty. i think the reynolda house art exhibit is currently something about trains.
some good places to eat: Foothills Brewery, Downtown Thai, 6th and Vine, West End Diner, breakfast of course, downtown deli, sweet potatoes.
i forgot to see if you mentioned when you are coming, but this weekend is the Rib Fest at the dixie classic fairgrounds, and there will be a lot of live music.
