3rd Trimester

Should I be worried? (TMI, sorry)

I am only about 34.5 weeks but I am not sure if I am starting to lose my mucus plug.

I peed about an hour ago and there was something floating in the toilet--I don't know if it was my mucus plug but it was yellowish on the outside and pink towards the middle, and i know it sounds weird but kind of feathery looking.

So, I have no idea what that was, but if it was my mucus plug should I be concerned?  I thought that was a sign of labor, but I just read somewhere else that I could still be 2 weeks to a month away.  Of course I can't wait for LO to get here and i've been saying I want him to come a little early, but this is too early.

TIA

  • It could be your plug but I wouldn't be worried.  It doesn't mean you'll go into labor and actually plugs can regenerate

  • Sounds like your mucus plug. I would mention it to your ob/ midwife but don't worry. You can be shedding that thing for weeks!
  • personally i wouldn't think that was a mucus plug.  but other posters seem to think it is.  its hard to tell.  if nothing else comes out over the next few hours/days that is blood streaked, or brown i would say you are fine.

  • it sounds like one to me. i'd call the doc to be sure in case its something else. a friend of mine told me that hers was pinkish tinged sometimes and it looked like "a giant booger had come out from between my legs". she said she started losing hers about two weeks or so before she had her baby. she was induced at 37 weeks though so i don't know anything about whether its a sign that its getting close to time or not.

agreed.  it can regenerate and some women lose theirs more than once.  it's worth a mention to your doc though.

  • I remember before I lost my plug I was thinking "Who the heck named that thing a mucous plug?! That is such a gross name." Then I saw it. And I thought "Yep, that is exactly what I would have named it." lol! I had a few times where I thought I might have lost the plug, but for me personally (everyone is different, remember!) there was no mistaking it when it actually happened. It was the *gigantic* booger thing that everyone describes with both of my kids. I want to say I lost it about 2-3 weeks before actually having them? Sometime around then. Regardless, as the others said, I might mention it to your doc, but I wouldn't worry about losing it. Good luck!
  • Yeah. I wouldn't be too worried. My dr. told me he wanted to know if it happened early on but after about 33 weeks or so it's not really a big issue/concern as they regenerate or most people walk around weeks without them before labor.
