Feeding times for a 9 day old?

I was just wondering if it's normal for a 9 day old to eat every 2hrs during the day, but at night sleep a good 3-4hrs between feedings. I have an alarm set for every two hours, but usually she is completely asleep and won't take the nipple until an hr or two later. I'm going to ask the pedi about it on Friday, but I wondered if any of you had had a similar experience?

Re: Feeding times for a 9 day old?

  • Yes that's perfectly normal. At this point you should be feeding on demand and not by any clock. As long as she is at or near birth weight letting her sleep is the right thing to do.

  • exactly what PP said. enjoy the sleep while you can get it!

as long as there are enough wet diapers, you are good to go.

  • awesome!

There are definitely more than enough wet/poopy diapers, and she's past her birth weight...so I will let her sleep! hallelujah!

  • My pedi told me that it's normal to feed between 2-4 hours.  You should be worried when LO is not producing wet/soil diapers.  My LO now is going almost one 5 hour stretch at night.  As other pp said, enjoy the time you have between feedings.
