Brown Spotting at 5 weeks :/

Hey ladies.  I woke up this am with a bit of brown spotting.  I am 5 weeks today and this is my first pregnancy so I am very clueless & nervous.  I called my Dr office but forgot it was tuesday which means he is in surgeries all day.  The receptionist is going to try to get him a message to call me.  I just hope all is ok and that I am just over-reacting.  I think if I see anymore later I may just head to the hospital and see if they will check it out for me.

  • I'm not a doctor, so I won't give any medical advice, however, I do know that some brown spotting can be very normal.  It could be old blood from implantation bleeding or from sex (as our cervixes are more vascular now).  As long as your aren't having bright red heavy bleeding, you should be okay, but again, I'm not a doctor.

Good luck to you! Thoughts and prayers coming your way and hang in there!

  • I don't know either. You did the right thing to call your doctor. I am remembering a friend of mine who had brown spotting around week 5 or so and it turned out to be from air pockets that formed during implantation but were being mushed out as the bond got stronger. She delivered a healthy baby girl last January.  Hopefully you're just going through something like that! GL

  • I spotted with my first as well and was practically shitting myself in fear, but I found out it's very normal. Just be worried if you get heavy spotting like a period (or bright red blood) and if you are cramping really bad.

To get piece of mind just wait for your doc to call you back though, you'll feel much better.

I spotted at 5 or 6 weeks for a few days. I was a basket case about since this is my first but the doctors wouldnt even admit me until it had gone on longer than 4 days. It stopped at about 3 days. Just relax, I am sure everything is fine :)

  • I wouldn't be too overly concerned about spotting unless it was bright red in color. Probably just some normal early pregnancy bleeding. Definitely did the right thing calling your doc, just to be on the safe side.

  • I had brown spotting as well for about 2 weeks.  I have a history of 2 miscarriages and so it freaked me out as well.  I went in for an ultrasound and everything was fine.  The doctor said that brown spotting is fine as long it isn't bright red.  With my miscarriages it was bright red.  I wouldn't worry too much about it and you definitely did the right thing by calling the doctor.  Good luck!

  • Thanks so much ladies.  I have been spotting still a little throughout the day but it is still brown and I am still having my pregnancy symptoms so I think it is fine.  I guess I'm just nervous because I don't know what to expect.  Hearing that is happens to many others makes me feel much better!

  • Don't get too worried yet.  I am 4 weeks 5 days and I had spotting starting last Wednesday through Sunday.  I totally freaked out because we have lost 3 before this one, but the Dr. said it was completely normal and as long as it's not bright red or gets heavier it's fine.  I know it's hard to relax, but relax! :)  I'm sure everything will turn out fine
