please STTN again

DS was sleeping through the night 9pm-6am for a good 3 weeks but for the past 2 weeks he's been getting up once or twice at varying times.  We've upped his bottles to 6 oz at a time, so he's at least getting the recommended 2.5 x weight.  He's 4 months now, any tips on how I can get him back to sleeping through the night...I'm soooooo tired

Re: please STTN again

  • I think it's the age. DD started waking once or twice a night about 3 weeks ago. Then it gradually got worse and about a week ago she had a couple of nights where she was up every hour! The past 2 days have been better with only twice a night again and she goes back down easily. Twice a night feels like heaven compared to every hour! I miss STTN too.

  • You're making me nervous b/c F is not far behind your LO's age.....google four month wakeful.  That ought to give you some insight as to what LO may be experiencing.  Keep us posted!

  • I agree with PP- it's the age.  They are going through a lot of developmental changes right now and becoming very aware.  Their sleep is changing because of it (becoming lighter sleepers, more like adults).  My LO was STTN for about a month between 2-3 months, and then it all went downhill.  He's up at least once, usually twice to eat now, and wakes up crying usually 1-3 times during the night and needs help getting back to sleep.  I'll think about sleep training in a couple months, but right now I don't want to change too many things at once- I'm working on deswaddling and switching to naps in the crib right now.

Some people are lucky and their LO's keep STTN, but I think they are in the minority.

  • I feel your pain! Before my LO only woke up to eat maybe once or twice a night. Now she?s sometimes up several times in an hour, multiple times a night. Not to mention she gave me her daycare germs so I?m functioning on 4 hours of sleep with a fever and disgusting cold. Anyway, I am working on comforting her without picking her up. Since they are so much more aware, if they fall asleep in your arms, when they stir later, they expect to still be in your arms. I don?t know how you put your LO down, but maybe that would help if you are rocking to sleep, etc. to start comforting without picking up?
