Food Allergy

Peanut Allergy for EBFed baby

Since my LO has been 4 weeks she has been treated for GERD.  At 5 months, I requested to see a GI doctor.  Treatment has been going good and I did not notice any reactions to food I consummed as she is EBfed and she was pretty much miserable anyways. When I rolled out solid foods 1 week at a time and have not noticed any real actions.

However the only constant food in my diet are eggs and dairy.  A month ago, I went on a peanut butter kick after giving it up for a while. My LO was up every hour screaming and she was fussy during the day.  I gave it up again and she was sleeping better and happier.  Last night, I had peanuts and went through the same thing.  The question is could a baby react to peanuts at this stage?  My mom and ped think no.  But I have an appointment with her GI doctor who speacializes in food allergies. Should I bring it up?  Am I crazy?

  • yes, bring it up and you are not crazy. I still remember my son had a swollen eye at about 6 months after i ate PB. Is there a rash on his skin also? eczema type? blood in the stool? I would not go near PB until you have him tested.  You alone made the link and it looks like you are right. follow your gut.

My pedi never told me it could be a food allergy, even though i was bringing him into the office with blisters on his body and swollen skin. I wish i went with my gut but i was so stubborn that it could not be MY diet/milk.

  • She definitely could be reacting.  I don't think it is early at all!  My daughter was tested at 3 months old and was positive for peanuts.  My pedi told me it was too early too.  Everytime you eat peanuts, it could be making the allergy worse (assuming she has one).  I would be avoiding all peanuts and tree nuts for now and making an appointment with a pediatric allergist for testing.

  • Thanks.  Her only symptoms so far are minor eczema and extreme fussiness....We just had night 2! I will talk to him today and see what he thinks.

When I ate peanuts/butter my LO would have the worse screaming fits, and her Bmovements were worse.  For now I just dont eat peanuts.  I have also had to cut things out of my diet to find out what her issues are.

We have food allergies in the family so we will have her tested at some point. If things don't improve for the better we will have her tested sooner.
