I know I totally sound like an inexperienced mama, but here goes...
Bella has had a horrible diaper rash for over a week. It's open, bleeds whenever we change her diaper, she scratches everywhere on her bottom that ISN'T open (it's not open from the scratching. She does this with almost every diaper rash) and I can't get it to clear up no matter what we do.
Here is what we have been doing: cleansing only with cotton balls and water, letting her air dry/go without a diaper as long as humanly possible during the day, we've tried Nystatin, Lotrisone cream, Desitin Maximum Strength.
I'm at a loss.... help!!
TIA!
Re: Should I take her in for diaper rash?
So if the nystatin isn't helping it isn't likely yeast... it sounds like a chemical in the diaper cream is making it worse?
We can only use classic desitin. Have you tried sensitive diapers? Cloth? Maybe an allergy?
Yes take her in, you don't want to get a nasty infection
Poor thing!
Calmoseptine.
You get it at the pharmacy from the pharmacist but you don't need a prescription, they just keep it behind the counter.
TMI but, when Jack was in the hospital on IV vancomycin and his skin was literally peeling off in sheets on his bottom (from diarrhea from the antib's) the CICU put calmoseptine on it.
It's menthol and zinc, naturally antibacterial, antifungal, and it numbs. Tingles (in a nice way) when it goes on.
You put it on in a thick layer on clean skin. Then, when it's time for a diaper change you wipe off anything that looks dirty but you don't scrub off all the cream - that would probably hurt, it sticks good! Just get it visibly clean and put on another thin layer. Then wash off at bath time.
It works like a miracle, seriously.

Thanks Hannah! I'll call our local pharmacies tomorrow
Nothing has changed a bit environmentally in the last 17.5 months. Same fabric softener, same laundry detergent, etc. I bought Huggies Sensitive Diapers and it didn't get any better.
She is pooping over the moon related to her 4 molars breaking through though. She always gets nasty poops when she is teething. I'm pretty sure that she has the most sensitive skin
I'll probably be marching her butt in to the doc tomorrow.
This x1000!! We love Calmoseptine. DH uses it for himself (had ulcerative colitis, then colon removed) and says it is by far the best. Anytime DS is red/raw/irritated we put it on and he's perfect in the morning.
I know all Walgreens are supposed to carry it most other pharmacies should be able to order it in and have it within 24 hours. I would try it for a day (at least one overnight) and if you don't see improvement then go to the Dr.
