some friends of ours are going to sell us half a cow in September. I was telling my grandma about it in hopes she would help me buy it and take half of our half. The cows live a good life on a farm free range they eat organic hay and grass no hormones or anything. Well the last month before slaughter they feed them corn I know its not natural for a cow to eat and it just fattens them up but my grandma is flipping out about it. Is it really that big of a deal that eats corn for a month? I honestly didnt think anything of it. Should I reconsider?
Re: anyone buy meat half a cow?
Corn is actually more of an animal-food than a people-food. Our bodies just aren't set up to digest it.
I wouldn't be bothered by it, but my ILs raise beef cattle and they raise the corn to feed them. I know other people might not be as ok with it as I am.

I am in your same boat kind of. My uncle and I went half on a calf (lmao I made a rhyme, keepin that one!) and it is kept at his house in a small field, he has had cows for the past 10-15 yrs but this is the first I got in on the action. Considering it's just two of us right now, I asked my grandmother to split my half as well.
As far as the corn I agree, that one month is no biggie unless you are completely against the industrial style. However even if that's the case, it doesnt sound like the cow will be eating corn only which is how the grocery store cow is, whats worse, they put a ton of $ into just transporting all that corn to the cows rather than letting them eat the grass ya know? I honestly don't see anything wrong with it, our cows are supplemented with corn like that too, it is not there main food though.
