Success after IF

Not sure if this is the right board to post on:) Need help

I originally posted this on the infertility board, but was recommended to post here:)

Just wanted to see if anyone had this similar situation and (hopefully) if you have had luck getting pregnant...My husband and I have been ttc for about 11 months. I knew something was not right  so we got tested. Long story short, I have polycystic ovary syndrome and my hubby has a low sperm count. I see an infertility endocrinologist and he suggested we go right to the IUI since our changes on getting pregnant on our own will be low. I will do the clomid and injectables. Anyone have this similar situation? And luck with it?

  • I meant to say chances not changes above!

  • Clomid + injects seems like overkill for your first cycle out the gate - the last thing you want is to hyperstimulate and then have to take a cycle off due to cysts and just general need to calm things down. I'd ask about the rationale behind clomid + injects. Most RE's (repro. endo.) start at a moderat clomid dose (100mg) and watch your response.
  • Are you sure you are doing clomid AND injectibles? Do you mean clomid and a trigger shot such as Ovidrel? Usually you move onto injectibles if You have not responded to Clomid. I have PCOS and my husband has low motility. I had luck with IUI. I took a little while for my body to respond to Clomid. With 200 mg of clomid I had (30) mm follicle. I triggered with Ovidrel the day before my scheduled IUI. My husbands post wash sperm count was 15 million. The result; that wonderful baby in my siggie! good luck, and let me know of any questions.

  • Thanks. Prior to seeing my RE, my gyno had already put me on two cycles of Clomid at 50 mg and obviously no results.  after that, he sent me in for the first ultrasound where then I was told I had the PSOS. He did this with no prior testing of either of us for the two cycle of clomid. This is all new so I hope I am explaining it right!I was referred to the RE. I went in about two weeks ago and they did one of those saline ultrasounds and gave me a TON of information afterwards I was so taken back and for that appt. I didnt even bring my husband with me. After they got his results ( he did his sample a few days later) they called me the following week and said to do the IUI. I know I will do Clomid on days 5-9 ( not sure what dosage yet) and take one shot ( not sure what day) . They explained it all to me,  but I just have to call back again when my cycle starts and they will walk me through the process agai and we will begin!
  • I am having issues with spelling! Again, I meant to say PCOS!
  • Maybe it is the trigger shot.Your probably right!

Sounds like you're talking about the trigger shot (Ovidrel). When people refer to injectibles, they're usually meaning series of injections of hormones to help with stimulation (not usually used with Clomid). Ovidrel is a one time shot that causes you to ovulate with near-precise timing.

Did your OB monitor you at all on the clomid. I know you didn't get pregnant but it's helpful to know if you produced mature follies with the clomid-they could up your clomid dose if not.

I have PCO (not PCOS-basically polycystic ovaries without the syndrome) and DH has a semi-low count. IUI has worked for us (first time with Clomid, 2nd time unmedicated).

  • No, my OB did not monitor me while I was on the Clomid. It was like here you go and hopefully it will work. The more I know now, it seems strange that he did not monitor me. It seems like it was a waste to take at that point from what I know now:( Now from hearing from all of you, it is the trigger shot! I got myself confused from all the information. Its good to hear that it can work for people! I feel so alone ( as I am assuming you all did) I have the typical story everyone around me gets pregnant naturally except for me!

If anyone else has a good story with what we have going on I would love to hear! It makes me happy that there is hope and it works out for people:)
