I get an email everyday from HungryGirl.com and today she talked about using diet coke instead of eggs, oil and water in a box cake mix. It sounds kinda weird. Has anyone ever tried it? And if you did, was it yummy?
Yes, and it is surprisingly good. I use coke or Dr. pepper with chocolate cake and sprite with white cake. All you have to do is mix the cake mix with the soda, super easy! It's better for you too!

You can also just replace the oil with an equal amount of applesauce. It doesn't alter the flavor of the cake at all (since it's a small amount) and your cake is more or less fat-free.
A co-worker has made cupcakes (yellow cake) with sprite. They're actually pretty good and they stay moist.
Have fun making them!

Another great cookbook along these lines is The CakeMix Doctor. Everything I have made out of it gets raves. They use regular cake mixes with un-conventional additonal items. I am sure these types are in there. I made a bourbon apple spice cake that was really popular.

I have never heard of this before but now that everyone has chimed in, I think I'll have to try it!
I do it all the time....it is delicious! My favorite is to get a can of Sugar free comstock Cherries, a diet cherry coke and a devils food cake mix.
Mix the cake mix and the coke together and bake in a greased cake pan as directed on the box. When it is out of the oven pour the cherries on an spread. YUMMY!
Re: Has anyone ever tried this?
tried it with brownies (as per what I was taught in WW).
It was good. Tasted slightly different to me, but took the brownies into work (when I worked will ALL guys), none of them seemed to notice at all. LOL
