I am hiding from a dead mousse....

I was washing dishes and cleaning my kitchen while DS was playing on the floor. I have a towel laying under my table chair by the cat food bowls, I had thrown it there after cleaning up the water DS spilled out of the cats water bowel this morning and was about to take it and the cleaning rags out to the laundry room.

I look down and I see fur and it takes a second to register that it is a HUGE dead mouse kind of pushed into the towel. And I'm not exaggerating, it is huge. I will admit it, though I'm not proud, I grabbed DS and we ran into the living room and shut the door, I'm skived out. Yes we are hiding from a dead mousse....I am not proud....Tongue Tied

And another sad confession...I feel a bit sad for the mousse even though I'm also freaked out by it. Poor dead mousse...Embarrassed

I'm also freaked out because DS was playing on the floor and I have no idea if he touched the mouse.  I was right beside him but he was getting into everything and was over near the area while I washed dishes.

I'm assuming one of my two cats caught it and left it as a present, it was right be there food bowls. But the cats are both asleep on my front porch so they ether did this earlier today and layed it on the towel right after I cleaned up the mess and it took me hours to notice or it died for another reason!  I don't see how DS could not have got near it since he kept crawing over there. It freaks me out

I live in an old house and I guess it is to be expected that we have mice. The cats are about to want in, should I let them go eat  their food...they may at the mouse.. do I have more...do I set traps o let the cats kill them without my help...I feel slightly bad killing mice Embarrassed but I don't want to share my home

Is it bad that I want to avoid the kitchen tell DH is home and ask him to get it...there goes being a brave strong women....

  • I'd just woman-up and get a garden trowel and go in there and take care of it and get on with your life.  I hate them too, but you can DO IT!!!!  (go neko!!!)  I'd also probably set traps (we have covered ones so I don't need to see anything - and I make DH take care of those, although we haven't caught anything in them for a long time, even though I know we've had mice since).  Do you know if there's any poison hanging around in the house that the mouse could have found?  If not, I'd probably assume it was the cats bringing you a treat.  Do they ever go outside?  They may have gotten it from there - although I'd probably do the traps anyway.

Good luck - I hate mice...  hate...

  • I would totally be freaking out right now as well. Not only would I be avoiding the kitchen, knowing me i would be leaving the house. Sad, but true. I hate mice as well. My child on the other hand loves bugs and animals.

NO I CAN'T...but thanks for the confidence!!!! ICK, I'm about to go do it because if I want dinner to be ready at a decent time I have to start it before DH ges home and I am not having a dead rat as a cooking companion.

My cats go outside to sleep on the front porch  (lazy cats), but I have to let them back inside after an hour and I would hope I would see them come in with a dead rat so I am sure they got i inside.

  • Dude, I feel ya.  We had a similar experience over Memorial Day weekend except it was a rabbit and our dogs in our yard.  I made DH shovel it over the fence but I had to take care of some of it's internal organs and dog yak.......blech.

Our dog has gotten at least 2 rabbits with his own skillz and another has somehow found it's way into our yard.  Two things:

    1. bunnies scream...  and I shall never be the same after knowing that.

    and

    2. I do make DH do the bulk of that, although the first time I had the privilege of holding the garbage bag.  *gag*

  • I did it...it is gone. Maybe it was not as big as I first thought Wink

    ICK ICK ICK!!!

The sad part is that I kept imagining it coming alive and attacking me...maybe to many zombie flicks. Geeked

Thankfully our yard backs up to a marsh (only time it's been a blessing) so we just chucked it over the fence. I'm not sure I'd be able to contain my stomach contents if I had to hold the bag.

Yeah, holding the bag was not one of the moments I'd hope to relive, although I guarantee, if I lived up next to a marsh, I'm pretty sure I'd be paranoid constantly about finding a dead body back there, cause that's how my twisted mind rolls, so I'll take my past experience over the rabbit-chucking ease of the marsh.

    LOL

And good for you Neo!  I had to do the same with a dead squirrel once.  My cats killed it and left it on the dining room floor (blech) and DH wasn't home until late so I didn't really have a choice.

Had not considered that but it's a possibility I'm sure.  That's ok though, I'll never know if there is one back there because I never go there.  Maybe that's what the dogs are always barking at?
