What a difference a door makes...

So I have been working from home, and I don't really have a home office. I had a desk in the living room and it had just gotten so hard to get things done. DH would bring the kids into the living room and I would be stuck trying to keep them quiet while on conference calls. It was hard. Over the weekend DH and I talked about it and I basically told him that even though he works from home he doesn't have to talk to people and it was really affecting things. Also my boss had said I could cut back on the days I go into the office from 3 to 2 or 1 whatever worked for me, but I honestly worried about not getting things done. So he moved everything to our room and made space there for the desk.

I have gotten SO much done today! Darrian is a bit sad, came knocking on the door, and I didn't answer.. but went out to have lunch with him and feed the boys. He was happy then. I think it will be a really good thing.

  • That is great news!!   I've found the same to be true here.

  • thats great!  I agree, I found that I cant work from home while sitting in the living room or at the dining table because I couldnt get away from DS... therefore too many interruptions, etc

hope this works out for you guys!

  • That's great!! Today the kids came in when I was in a call, but luckily I was on mute. :) Speakerphone and mute are my best friends.
  • That sounds great!  I can't imagine working with the kids in the same room, especially since my kids are convinced I am a jungle gym.  Congrats on things going so well that your boss is going to let you work from home so much more.  I bet in no time D catches on that your having to shut the door is way better than your having to go into the office.
  • awesome!

  • Awesome! I've heard its a good tip to leave the house and reenter through another door so kids don't even know you are home.

  • That's SO great, M!  Yeah, I try to schedule any and all phone calls for when DH is home so I can go to our bedroom and shut the door.  And that's just, like, calls to the apartment office to schedule a repair or something.  Calls where I really don't care if I sound like a nutjob.  ;)  I can't imagine trying to concentrate, stay professional and actually get work done w/the kiddo in the room w/me!  I'm seriously so happy for you!  :)
