I'm trying to get my Babies to take naps and STTN and letting them cry is really hard on me. I just wantto go in there and comfort them, but I know they need to learn this.
How long did it take before your kids leaened to take decent naps and STTN? They used to STTN, but not anymore for some reason.
Thanks.
P.S. I'm posting from my phone so sorry in advance for any spacing errors.
Re: Sleep Training is Hard :( How long did it take your kids?
first of all, have you read ferber? he believes in crying it out, but going in periodically to reassure them (but not pick them up). i'm really a believer that it works better and is kinder than letter them cry indefinitely.
we've been ferberizing for 12 days. nights showed improvement almost immediately, naps we're still struggling, but that's partly because we have issues with scheduling naps appropriately.
good luck!
3 nights.
4th night he went to bed without a peep and we haven't had an issue since (Ferbered at 9 months and he is now 3.5 years!)
We never had to Ferber DS2......always goes right to bed.
Both boys never had issues with naps, so there was no CIO needed for naps.
GL! It is hard, but so worth it
For a long time I was really uncomfortable letting our kids cry, so we waited until they were just under a year old. At that point we were stilling rocking/feeding them to sleep, DS was up at least twice a night and DD was up nearly every hour.
The first night they each cried for about 20 mins each time they woke up, the second night DS cried for about 5 mins and DD for about 10 at bedtime and then STTN. The third -sixth nights they each cried about 2 mins before falling asleep and STTN. Now they go to sleep pretty much without any complaining and stay asleep all night.
Having said all that, until you are totally comfortable with it, don't feel pressured to sleep train.
We never really had trouble with going down at night, but we did do Ferber to eliminate night wakings and feedings. I think we saw results pretty much immediately.
Naps were harder- my son Benjamin is very good at resisting them- so if he wasn't down after 1 hour, I got him up and skipped the nap. He was always very tired for his next one and would sleep well later in the day.
I also hate their cries, and I was never able to sleep while they cried.
Our issue is night wakings and feedings too. Our babies don't have an issue going to sleep at night, but they get up at least once a night lately - last night two and three times.
Naps are definitely an issue too, but especially for my son. He fights them like crazy. He hasn't taken a nap in two days now.
Thanks everyone for your advice and encouragement!
