baby in the car in the heat

This heat is killing me already!

I can get over it, but I hate how hot the car seat it for my daughter.  I know we probably just have to suffer through it but is there anything at all we can do keep the carseat cool?

  • I would feel the metal buckles before putting your child in the seat. I saw a photo recently where a baby was severely burned when she was placed in the seat.

I really regret getting a black car seat. That combined with black interior seats and no air vents in the back. It's really hot back there. No big deal when I leave from home but if I park outside in a parking lot on a hot day it takes forever for the car to cool down. I'm planning to get my windows tinted soon. But I'm not sure what else to do to keep it cooler in the backseat.

  • I am not an expert by any means since I don't even have a LO yet. However, I'd imagine using car shades and maybe putting a blanket over the car seat when not in use would help keep it shaded and cooler. Or this may seem crazy, but maybe you try freezing a gallon of water and leaving it in the seat while the car is parked?

  • We use something similar to this https://www.babybeecool.com/ when out and about.  We keep it in the deep freeze and put it on the floorbaords of the back seat when DD is in her carseat.  When we get to out destination we take DD out, cover the car seat and go.  Sun shades and window tinting do help but the ice packs do keep the seat cooler and definitely keep the buckles from heating up.  HTH.

  • I second the ice packs on the car seat. I have seen the lunch ice packs for coolers used and then place a white sun reflection stroller cover that was used to cover the car seat.

We are having the same problem. I am not looking forward to this summer heat!

  • Hi D&L of course I remember you! Congrats on the LO!! Thanks for all of the advice, I think a sun shade or cover over the seat should help. Wouldn't the icepacks get the seat wet?
