Taking baby out

When did you feel taking the baby out for "errands" by yourself? My LO is 2 weeks old and tomorrow is the first day I'll be by myself with LO and I have a couple things to do but I don't feel comfortable taking him out to the store or places like that yet. When did you or plan to take baby out by yourself into public places?

Re: Taking baby out

  • I think I started taking her by myself in her second week. She slept so much it made it really easy to take her places.

  • Almost immediately. IMO Infants are super easy to cart around- they sleep so much and with the infant seat, super portable, lol. I gave taken both kids our a few times, that us more daunting to me...

  • Crazy me chose the hottest day of the year to go out with Ben alone for the first time.  It was chaotic b/c it was SO hot and I felt bad with the car being hot but I had stuff I had put off way too long and had to get done.

  • totally by myself.. with dh not around, was last Wednesday night.  So one day shy of 2 weeks old.  I had to go to a viewing, and the funeral home was 40 minutes away from home, (each way) so there was no way I was comfortable leaving her with DH in case she needed to be fed.

I took her food shopping today, which was the first time going somewhere "public" with just her and I...and some skank stranger touched her while in the food store.  WTF, who does that?

  • Someone tried to touch your baby?!  Oh no, no, no...I wudda had a fit!  We were in Shop Rite the other night and some lady tried to take his blanket off of him to take a good look at him...I stopped her right in her tracks.  I would never try to touch a stranger's child unless I was looking to get severely hurt.

Back to the subject..I took LO out the week he came home from the hospital.  He was a little over a week old.

  • LO was 3 weeks old when she left the NICU and we ended up at Target before ever making it to the house.
  • With FI, 3 days. Alone, 7 days.
  • I took her to the chiropractor and grocery store at about a week old.  We did a little shopping yesterday at exactly 2 weeks old.  I don't mind going out with her, but the logistics of hitting that window between feedings is a bit tricky.  I was very thankful for the mother's room at BRU yesterday!

  • I took all 4 kids out for lunch and shopping when he was 2 weeks old.  I only waited that long bc I couldn't drive...

  • 2 weeks exactly was the first outting that I was solo with both kids.  It was also my first time driving the new car.   It was only to the health unit for A's fluoride varnish and K's newborn hearing screening, but it felt like a huge deal just getting them out of the house.  Now we go out almost for some reason or other almost every day.
