Parenting after 35

why are there two parenting boards

Well I'm over 35, but why is there a dedicated parenting board for this age?

Parenting and Parenting over 35  seems redundant to me

This board tends to be more mellow than a lot of the other boards.  It's more for those of us who simply realize that some fights aren't worth it and snark is not a quality to live for.

  • Hey thumper57!  I think the main reason this board exists is because there was a large group of women (myself included) who felt out of place on the other parenting boards after being together on the TTC after 35 and Pregnant after 35 boards.  We petitioned the Bump for this board and we are grateful for it.

In the beginning, it was getting pretty old reading on the Babies boards how someone wants to be done with having children by age 30. Or how THEIR mother is only 44 (I'm 41) or so.  So having this board was a great place to connect with moms who were at a similar stage in their lives. Why is 35 the cutoff? I guess due to medical "AMA" reasons.

While most of the topics probably transcend age specifics, there are some that only a parent (and on these boards mostly mothers) over 35 can relate to. Being mistaken for your baby's grandmother. Worries about being at retirement age when your LO is graduating high school. Aging parents (a big concern of mine).

I've never posted on the "Parenting Board" and cannot comment on the posters there and how they would relate to us. But I hope that the Bump never feels this board is redundant, because IMO, it isn't.

  • I agree with Robyn.  I came here from TTC +35 and then PG +35.  I like that there are other moms who are in my age range who have babies and young children.  I also like the maturity of this board...I don't have much in common with young moms, even though our babies might be the same age.

ditto this, it's a natural progression of the >35 track.  I'm glad to be able to keep in touch with familiar folks on this journey.

  • I love the maturity of this board.  I just turned 35 in March so I decide to take a look at this board and LOVE it...DS is my first so when I have my next I will definitely go to the Pregnant over 35 board.

  • This board exists because we all talk in complete sentences, use proper grammar and do so without text-speak.   BWAHAHAHAHA!

  • I haven't even looked at the other parenting board, I figured if I found people my age, we would have more in common.  This board is definitely the right place for me.  As others have said, I like the maturity of it.

  • I didn't realize there was a history behind this board.  thanks for the insights!

someone brought up that our age has some concerns that younger moms would not have - that I do understand.   Especially that I often think about how old I will be when the kids are graduating high school and it bothers me.

there is a few different boards here that I participate in and  I have definitely seen a lot of drama on TB.   I don't participate in  drama ,  but it is fun to read when I am bored.  I have been on the  regular parenting board and this one but I guess I'm not on it frequently enough to discern any differences yet
