Babies: 3 - 6 Months

6 month old that just won't sleep - help!

my best friend & i have boys 3 weeks apart.  DS is an amazing sleeper - he started sleeping through the night at 5 months.

my friend's boy was always a pretty normal sleeper at night while really little, but now he will not sleep at night!  he wakes and they do CIO where he will cry for 3 hours straight (they check on him at various intervals of course, but don't pick him up or anything).  this has been everynight for 3-4 weeks now (he's about 6 1/2 months old now)!  even if he does go back to sleep, he will wake again later in the night and do this all over again...he pretty much only falls asleep from exhaustion.

i feel awful for them.  anyone have experiences like this around this age?

  • He may be hungry. Are they feeding him when he wakes up? My DD hasnt slept through the night and she is 2.5 some kids dont. I dont have to rock her back to sleep but she does get up and I kiss her, like them I tried CIO and it never worked for her. I know thats probably not what they want to hear but may be true. My DS on the other hand is very close to STTN every kid is just different.

  • they do feed him if they feel that's the issue, but he generally will only take an ounce or two...so he's likely not wailing from hunger.  plus he wails again after anyways.  :(
  • My LO was born early and really little.  He slept best between months 2-3.  Now he is growing like a weed and wakes up once or twice a night to eat.  He has grown 8 inches in 6 months!!!  If her LO is crying for so long, he is probably hungry!  I read that I could expect LO to need to eat up to 9 months due to the rate of his growth!
