Do you let LO watch television?

Just wondering here. We try not to let Luc focus on the TV because we don't want him addicted. My 9 year old niece stares at the TV and doesn't process anything. She doesn't even laugh at the funny stuff. It's like she's a zombie! I know it's not realistic for Luc to NEVER watch, but we turn it off if he's focusing too much on it. I figure he has the rest of his life for that Indifferent

  • We were actually watching Tosh.0 last night.

    I love that guy.

  • We try not to, but DS will NOT take his eyes off of it if it's on in the room.  He will crane his neck any which way possible in order to get a glimpse!  He's definitely a boob-toober!

  • I let K watch wonder pets or yo gabba gabba in the morning so I can get some things done. But thats the only time I really will allow him to watch it.

However since he having some many issues eating ...sometimes the only way to get him to eat is turn on the tv. It distracts him (sometimes) and he was drink a couple of ounces without screaming his head off. And until he goes to the Feeding Clinic at the Childrens Hospital...my pedi says whatever works right now do it.

However ...i feel so bad that I do this. I was one of those people that said my child was never going to watch TV. Embarrassed

This. And we said we wouldn't let her watch TV until 2 years old. Oh, well.

  • Sometimes I put on Mickey Mouse or something if I want to eat breakfast in peace but he doesn't really watch it. The only thing he ever watches is the Baby Faith DVDs but I haven't had to put them on for awhile because he entertains himself better now than he did a couple months ago.

  • I always have my TV on even if it's just in the background (idk why).  But whenever I have her on my lap she is always watching it.

  • We don't even own a tv, but I do let her look at the computer when I'm on it.

  • My LG has no interest in the TV. Sometimes talking will get him to turn his head to it, but he doesn't really watch or even focus on it.I always have the tv on in the background and he could care less.

At this age, I wouldn't worry too much about the amount of tv they watch. As they get older, then yeah I would definitely limit their tv time.

  • Ive let him watch Classical Baby a couple times but he is not that into it.  DH has been watching the basketball playoffs and he likes to watch those while sitting on Daddy's lap, he love sports!  We dont watch too much TV usually until after he goes to bed usually but if he watches a little, I dont mind.

totally the same here with DS!  we do let him watch like mickey mouse or baby einstein if we need a minute (like when i'm trying to make up the bottles for DC in the morning or need to do a few things to get dinner going), but it's not every day and it's not for long periods of time.  he loves it!  but we do feel very guilty...

  • No.  He does catch glimpses of it and is very interested in it, though.

  • I've never set her in front of the tv with the intent of her watching it so I could do something (not at all judging those who do though) but I have the tv on all the time & she does try to turn her head to watch it. I don't really mind her watching it for a few minutes, but I do move her so she can't see it if its been more than that.

  • Rarely. I only have it on when she's awake if it's been a no good very bad day and I am desperate to get 5-10 minutes of quiet out of her. She'll focus on it for that long.

  • I don't keep the tv on throughout the day but I do let DS watch a little bit here and there. We have a Very Hungry Caterpiller dvd that he seems to enjoy. It's very calming and slow and when I put it on, he will watch contentedly for about fifteen minutes or so. Depending on what time of the day it is, I will either sit and watch with him or I will put his bouncer in front of the tv and let him watch while I do a chore or two. I don't feel guilty about it. I did at first though! We don't have cable. We watch all of our shows via netflix and the internet so most of the time our tv is off anyway.

  • He is such a cute little one! My Rylee is 4 months old and only watches bubble guppies on tv for twenty min or so I am going to limit her TV to 30 min a day when she is older.

This!  I feel guilty about doing it, but it keeps her attention for a few minutes and sometimes I need a few minutes to prepare food, put a little makeup on for work, etc.

  • I try not to - if I notice him staring at it like a zombie, I turn it off.  If he glances randomly every now and then, I don't worry.

  • I am super against lo watching television, and said so since before he was born. But....every morning when I put on my contacts and brush my teeth I let him watch tv, because he just loves Rachel Ray. It's just a quick five minutes so that's how I justify it. I would never let DH see me doing this though.Embarrassed
