Rec healthy popsicle options for toddlers that come in plastic sleeve

We bought some Pedialyte popsicles for DD and gave them to her last time she was sick. She loved them. In fact, she used to trick me into opening the freezer and then after I opened it, she would point to the popsicles and ask for one (making it harder for me to say no). Then one day I got smart and moved the Pedilyte popsicles to the downstairs freezer (and yes, I'm giving myself a pat on the back for figuring that out).

Anyway, I was wondering if there are any healthy popsicle options for toddlers that come in the plastic push-up sleeves. At DD's age, it just won't work for her to eat a popcicle on a stick because it will drip everywhere. Also, I know there are some options to make your own popsicles but again, I feel like those will make a royal mess with her trying to eat them if they are just on a stick or a plastic base.

Any recommendations?

  • I am pretty sure they are not healthy- but we buy the mighty minis by Popsicle because they are small and have 'slow melt'

also, there is a brand of sleeze popsicles that are by the apple sauce that are less sugar than normal ones. I am blanking on the brand but they come in strawberry, raspberry, etc and we just cut one in half and give the half to DD.

    She loves frozen treats!

I'll try to remember to look at WF when I go grocery shopping this week for you.  I'm thinking that if anyone is going to have healthier options, they would.

as an aside, do you think my 10mo old is too young to share a popsicle with me?  Like the mostly fruit ones.  Clearly, I would hold it but he's teething and likes frozen things.  I'm thinking this could be a nice treat for both of us after a day outside.  Or does that sound like a recipe for disaster?

  • I've never seen healthy versions in the plastic sleeve.  I may be flamed for saying this, but a popsicle is sugar water.  I just embrace it for what it is.  The sleeves are 25 calories and have a teaspoon of sugar.  At least they are small and relatively neat.  DD doesn't get them all the time, but they are a great hot afternoon treat that doesn't spoil her appetite for dinner.  I just wish they came in clear.  You don't need to sell kids on popsicles, you need to sell the parents.  I have no idea why manufacturers don't get that.

  • MoM sells "Cool Fruits" - https://www.coolfruits.com/default.aspx

I would second the rec for mighty mini's, if you're not totally against the sugar/artificial colors.  We bought the Dora slow melt, and DD loves them.  I like them too.  :)  They add gelatin, which makes them a LOT less drippy.

Ditto this.  The slow melt is helpful and they are mini.

  • my daycare lady takes gogurts and freezes them.  Sort of like popsicles, and at least yogurt!  i think she may even cut them in half to serve them.  My son loves them!!!
  • we buy del monte fruit chillers...they are sold by the applesauce and in tubes not frozen. There is a bit of sugar in them but way less than other popsicles and no HFCS.  They are 55 calories each...DH and I LOVE them too..haha

i have no idea how to do a link..sorry

  • Thanks ladies. I had never heard of the slow melt so I might give those a shot. The Del Monte Fruit Chillers, Cool Fruits and and Gogurts are all good ideas too.

  • And if you don't want to go the Gogurt route, we do Stonyfield Farm Organic Yo Kids squeezers and freeze those.  Whole Foods probably has them, but I have found them to be the least expensive at Target.  I was so proud of myself for thinking up the idea to freeze them, and then I noticed right on the package that it says "fridge or freeze".  Oh well!
