If you've been to Disney and stayed off property...

How did you get around? 

We are staying at the Sheraton Vistana Villages on International Drive because DH's aunt and uncle own a villa there and we are getting a GREAT deal. Only downside is deciding what to do about transportation. The resort we are staying at has a shuttle to the parks but it is $9 per person each way! And it's all ages...we would have to pay the $9 for a 2 month old and a 2 year old! I just think that is totally crazy and I've looked into it and it would be just about the same price to rent a car for the week.

What are my other options here? I've heard there is a trolley that runs down International Drive...would this get us to the parks? Any other shuttles? Taxis? Or should we just rent a car?

    I'd rent a car. We stay on property and we still rent a car about half the time. i have found great deals on cars our last two trips. Check out mousesavers.com for some rental car codes and discounts. Also, if you have a Costco or Sam's Club membership, they have discounts on their websites. Of course, if you have a car, you will have to pay for parking (I believe it's around $11 a day). But a car would give you much greater flexibility than using shuttles and I think taxis will be more expensive.

    I am no help because we are driving to Orlando, but since it sounds like you are flying...I would rent a car. 

    I am pretty sure I am crazy for driving with 2 young kids...but it is way cheaper than the cost for flights, bags, checking many items, renting a car and car seats.

    I used to work at Disney so I know the transportation pretty well and I would say definitely rent a car.  You will save a lot of time and energy that way and have more flexibility.
