POLL: Swimsuits

It's been years since I've shopped for one anywhere other than Target and OhMyGOSH have they gotten expensive! Yikes!!

So, my questions to you are:

Where do you typically purchase your swimsuits?

How much do you usually spend?

What style of swimsuit do you wear/ prefer?  (Bikini, one piece, tankini, skirted bottom, etc)

Re: POLL: Swimsuits

  • I usually buy my swimsuits at Target or Walmart.

I haven't bought one for a few years but I think they were about $20 for each piece. I have a tankini so it was around $40 or so.

  • Check out Lands End Canvas. They have pretty reasonable suits, especially if you like one on sale. Returns can be made at Sears.

    I prefer tankinis.

I am large busted so there aren't many that hold me up (especially since they have now completely sagged after my PG's!).

That being said, the few really good ones I have are expensive, but to me, worth it. I get mine mostly at Nordstrom's. The Gottex ones are GREAT. Very slimming and hold up the girls ;) I think they have them at Macy's too and sometimes you can use their coupons for them. The other brand that I really like is La Blanca.......a bit more expensive than Gottex, but they have "cuter" styles/prints.

  • I usually go to a department store like Macy's, or a specialty online shop. My bbs are big, lol, so I need something well made (and supportive!). Those are hard to find at Target/Walmart.  I typically also need to buy different sizes in top and bottom and only some stores do that.  I will pay $$$$ for a great suit that makes me feel comfortable!

  • I usually get mine from VS.  I need to get the bra size tops.  I haven't bought any in a long time, but I'm always on a quest for a bikini that's not a halter, my boobs are too big for a halter and it hurts the back of my neck.

If I was smaller I would probably get something at Target.

  • Where do you typically purchase your swimsuits? Department Stores (Nordstrom, Macy's) or other clothing stores (have had ones from J. Crew and Land's End recently)

How much do you usually spend? $80-100 unless they're on sale (got one from Rue La La last year, etc.)

What style of swimsuit do you wear/ prefer?  (Bikini, one piece, tankini, skirted bottom, etc) Tankini with a boyshort/hipster bottom, but right now I'm using a very cheap Old Navy maternity one piece since I didn't want to spend much on something I'd get a month use out of max.

  • I go for the nice ones from Victoria's Secret, so I normally spend $50-$90 on one, but they last years. My most recent fave is this one from VS by DKNY, sucks me in GREAT! I have it in white & black. :)

  • I buy mine at J Crew. They usually have some colors and styles on sale, otherwise they are pretty expensive (maybe like $80-$100) but I like that I can buy them as separates.

What type?  Ugh.  I am fat.....2 years ago I bought 2 tankini tops and one pair of bikini bottoms and one skirt.  However, the tops are really too big (I bought them when I was nursing) and I think they actually make me look fatter than I am (which is not acceptable).

This year I bought two skirt bottoms and two bikini tops....but I'm not sure my body is there.  Well, I know it isn't....but I kind of feel like bathing suits are not really going to hide a big belly no matter what kind it is and if the skirt comes up high enough it covers my spare tire...but I still would feel better about them if I lost 10 pounds.  Sigh.

  • 1.  When not pregnant I get my suits at Target

    2. Around $40.00

    3.  I always wear a one piece or a tankini.  I'm not a fan of two pieces for myself anymore, even thought I'm skinny.  I just feel like a teenager when I wear them...I don't know why maybe, I'll get over that one day....haha.

  • I have previously bought them through VS because I like the bra cup sizing.

Unfortunately I'll be in-between sizes this summer because I'll be gradually cutting down on nursing, so I ended up getting a tankini from Land's End.  I usually get a tankini because I like the versatility of two pieces.  At this point, I've lost almost all the baby weight, but my mid-section is the thing I am most self-conscious about, so I like to keep it covered.

I think I spent about $70 (got it on sale).

  • I love jcrew swim suits, they are a little more pricey but hold up well. They also keep most of their colors so over the years I have been able to get different tops or bottoms that match so I can mix and match pieces.

Land's End. I'm currently wearing  a tankini (well, not this minute, but you know what I mean.) I think it was around $80 and worth every penny.
  • this year I bought 2 bikini's from Victoria's Secret (I'm can finally wear a 2 piece again but I need a bottom that covers my stretch marks.  Last year I bought a few one pieces from TJ Maxx & Marshalls & Old Navy.  They were $15- $35

  • Another vote for Land's End. I have a tankini, but the top is tunic length, so there is no chance of my belly showing. My specific suit is sturdy (read: not particularly sexy), so I have no worries of LO pulling my top down. This year, LE also has rash guard shorts for adults. If you are concerned about sun exposure (or want to forgo as much sun block), this is a nice option. They carry some Lands End merchandise in Sears and you can return things you ordered online in Sears. If you want tom order from LE, sign up for their deals, they are always running coupons of some sort. (And, now that LO is wearing some size 2T clothes, I have bought him a number of things from LE. I am very happy with the cost and quality!)

  • I haven't bought a suit anywhere but Target in a long time! And I usually wear bikinis on vacation or with friends, but I am on a hunt for a cute one piece or tankini for mommy and me swim classes. A bikini just doesn't seem appropriate there.... Ha.

  • I usually get mine at target and spend 30-40.  I would like to have a bikini but do to the massive amount of stretch marks I am forced to wear a tankini or a one piece.
