If you are pregnant with number 2

Hi everyone. I am new here and have a question. My husband and I are trying for number two now (our son is 1.5 years old) and I was just wondering if it was easier to get pregnant this time around than it was with number one. I know everyone is different but would just like to see everyone's experience.

Thanks!

  • It was the same for us...although this one wasn't planned.

  • We weren't trying but weren't preventing for our first one and it took 2.5 years for me to get pregnant. I am hoping it doesn't take as long this time. I was thinking about starting to chart but I don't really know where to start and kind of just wanted to let things go naturally but as fast as possible (if that makes any sense).

  • It took the same amount of time with each pregnancy for us.

  • It was much easier. We TTC for 2 years before we got pregnant with our DD. I got pregnant again my first pp cycle when DD was only 6 months old but m/c that pregnancy. This time around DD was 11 months and here we are pregnant again. I was on clomid when I got pregnant the first time and thought I would have to to that route again. I guess my body has learned what it is supposed to do and wants to do it naturally.

  • First pregnancy took us about 4 months, but wasn't viable.  I got pregnant with our son two months later.  We were trying for this pregnancy for about 5 months and then stopped when I needed to have my gallbladder removed, a month after the surgery, we weren't trying and poof!

  • We were pregnant with our DD pretty quick, maybe 2 months of "trying" and our current pregnancy was a suprise...I suppose it does get easier with each one! :)

possibly, I'm not trying to be rude but lots of moms experience unexplained infertility AFTER they have had 1 child. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way but that could hurt some moms feelings, jsyk

Pretty much the same. With DS I went off BCPs in anticipation of TTC in a few months, got pregnant like 2 weeks later just by not preventing. This time I had one period after having DS, and was pregnant the next cycle. I'm super lucky and blessed.

  • I got pregnant with DS on our honeymoon. We were shocked. This time it took us over 6 months. It was much more difficult but we did move cities and have some external stressors.
  • i'll just say this (and no, its not an exaggeration) my husband and i have only had totally unprotected sex twice in our marriage.

someone is getting fixed after this one! :)

  • With our first it took a year of charting, OPK's, and 5 months of Clomid, this time it was a big surprise and happened the one time the entire month that we did anything.

  • Right away with our son, three months for this baby, still pretty easy both times.

  • Three months with DS and one month with this baby. We're very lucky!
  • it was easier this time... with dd, it took us 8 months of trying and (6 months of using ff) and with this pregnancy, 3 months (and a month of using ff)..

  • It took us 9 months the first time, this time it was a total surprise.  We were not preventing but definitely not trying.  We only had sex once and BFP!  8-)

  • Our first 2 it was the first month of trying for both of them.  For our third it has been 2 1/2 years of H$LL.  I had an ectopic that ruptured.  A second ectopic caught early and a missed miscarriage at 7 wks 3 days.  Not fun at all.  Still hoping and praying that this one is our sticky bean.  Still have some anxiety about it.  Not wanting to jinx things and such.

Everyone is different.  I have heard a lot of about secondary infertility..meaning unexplained infertility after your first child.   But many people are just fertile and have no problems.

Hope it happens quickly for you this time around!!

  • Thanks everyone. I really would love to pregnant again right away, but realistically it is probably going to take a while especially since I am still breastfeeding.

  • I guess I'm in the minority. Got pregnant the first cycle with DS. I wanted my kids to be 2.5 years apart, so we started trying last fall (assuming it would be quick again) and it took us 7 cycles to get pregnant with the second one. I was shocked!

    You never know...

  • We had 2IF the second time around, but still with that only took 10 months plus diagnosis, injectables and an IUI, which I consider to be pretty lucky, considering.  Hopefully this one sticks so we can be done.

The breastfeeding shouldn't make a difference if you've already gotten your periods back.  Good luck to you.

  • Well with DS we didn't use BC for two years and did not get pregnant (so not trying but not preventing) but then got pregnant the first time I used an ovulation predictor kit.

With #2 we were planning to start TTC this June, but again were not trying but not preventing and I got pregnant this time six months after my period returned (after I stopped BFing DS).

  • it took 4 month with my daughter. We got pregnant on the first try this time.

  • Not for us. We got pregnant quickly and easily with DS, and this one took 11 cycles (and 1 miscarriage). I was also charting all cycles, so I knew that we had perfect timing (on the months that I O'd), etc. However, I wasn't ovulating for a decent number of those months.
  • The first one took us 10 months to concieve. The second was convienced fairly quickly. We weren't actively trying but wasn't preventing.
  • i had a missed mc and a d and c the first time... and that was in june. i had found out i was expecting again in august. my son is now two and i wasnt trying to prevent.  was suprised it took as long as it did

  • My first it took 16 months but I have long, irregular cycles and had never even heard of charting.  My 2nd I was charting to avoid and didn't look at my chart right and oops, I got pg.  My 3rd we were trying and charting and it took 2 weird cycles and 2 normal cycles after coming off BC.

Untrue for me. I got pg with my first on our second cycle charting and have had two m/cs while trying for #2.

Untrue for me too.  With my son it happened on the first cycle trying.  This time it took 7 cycles.  I started seeing an RE after cycle #6 because I'm 36 and because charting showed my luteal phase was short.  Got pg on my first Femara/IUI cycle.

I don't have an IF dx (and I pray I never do) but it has taken me longer this time than with my 1st.  We started trying last fall and are still at it.
